Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Linux Desktop Support Specialist to join our team at Canonical. As a key member of our support team, you will be responsible for providing technical support to our employees, ensuring that they have a seamless and productive experience with our Linux-based systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support to employees via various channels, including remote access and phone support.
  • Onboarding Support: Assist new employees in setting up their Linux desktop environments and provide guidance on using our systems.
  • Event Support: Provide technical support during international events, ensuring that our systems are running smoothly and that employees have a positive experience.
  • Case Management: Take ownership of new cases, investigate and resolve issues in a timely manner, and ensure that each support request is handled in accordance with our Service Level Agreement (SLA).
  • Customer Advocacy: Act as an internal customer advocate, keeping employees updated on the status of their support requests and ensuring that their needs are met.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Contribute to a common knowledge base, sharing your expertise and experiences with the team to improve our support processes.
  • Communication: Draft and distribute technical notices to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that everyone is informed and up-to-date on our systems and processes.
  • Prioritization: Prioritize your work to ensure that the most critical and urgent tasks are completed first.
  • Professional Development: Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in Linux and our systems, attending training and development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
  • Team Collaboration: Maintain regular communication and information exchange with the rest of the team, both locally and remotely, to ensure that we are working together effectively.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a technical field from an accredited college or university, preferably in Computer Science, MIS, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Experience in a Linux-based environment, gained through university subjects or work experience, is highly desirable.
  • Linux Knowledge: Strong knowledge of Linux, including installation, troubleshooting, and basic configuration of recent Ubuntu Desktop releases.
  • Desktop Linux Usage: Familiarity with basic desktop Linux usage, including desktop tools for editing files, browsing the Web, managing Internet connectivity, and setting up printers and services.
  • Troubleshooting: Basic troubleshooting skills, including collecting logs and fine-tuning by editing configuration files.
