About the Role

Canonical is seeking a highly skilled Linux Desktop Support Associate to join our team. As a key member of our support team, you will be responsible for providing technical support to employees, ensuring that each support request is handled efficiently and effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support to employees, troubleshooting and resolving issues related to Linux desktops.
  • Onboarding Support: Provide technical onboarding support for new employees, ensuring a smooth transition to our Linux desktop environment.
  • Event Support: Provide technical support during international events, ensuring that all technical aspects run smoothly.
  • Case Management: Take ownership of new cases, handling them in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Customer Advocacy: Act as an internal customer advocate, keeping employees updated on the status of their support requests.
  • Knowledge Base: Contribute to a common knowledge base, ensuring that it remains up-to-date and accurate.
  • Communication: Draft and distribute technical notices for internal and external communication, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed.
  • Prioritization: Prioritize work to ensure that the most important and urgent tasks are completed first.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in Linux and related technologies.
  • Team Collaboration: Maintain regular communication and information exchange with the rest of the team, both locally and remotely.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a technical field from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience: Experience in a Linux-based environment, gained through university subjects or work experience.
  • Linux Knowledge: Strong knowledge of Linux, including installation, troubleshooting, and basic configuration of recent Ubuntu Desktop releases.
  • Desktop Linux Usage: Basic desktop Linux usage, including desktop tools for editing files, browsing the Web, managing Internet connectivity, and setup of printers/services/packages/external storage devices.
  • Troubleshooting: Basic troubleshooting skills, including collecting logs and fine-tuning by editing configuration files.
  • Installation and Recovery: Familiarity with safely installing, uninstalling, reinstalling, and repartitioning machines running Ubuntu Linux, and recovering broken installations.
  • Productivity Tools: Understanding of Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Applications, and Single Sign-On.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.
Desirable Skills
  • Programming: Some knowledge of programming languages, including bash, python, Perl, Ruby, Javascript, C or C++, Go.
  • Customer Support: Customer support experience is a plus.
