Guided by the five principles the P&O Director for the Middle East Africa (MEA) unit will be a critical member of the MEA Leadership team to lead a $1billion business spanning across 75 diverse markets. With strategic hubs in Dubai, Jeddah, Cairo, Nairobi, and Johannesburg* (*effective Oct ’24), the P&O Director is pivotal in supporting the leadership team who are located across these five locations while overseeing the welfare and ambitions of over 1,200 Associates from over 45 nationalities across supply and demand.

Reporting directly to the Middle East Africa General Manager and with a dotted line into the VP P&O Global Emerging Markets, you will be an integral member of both the MEA Leadership Team and the Global Emerging Markets (GEM) P&O Leadership Team. The roles primary responsibility is to drive the People Agenda and strategy across the MEA unit, focusing on key strategic priorities around Talent, Culture, Capabilities, and Network Learning. As a member of the G3 (GM, P&O, CFO), you will share ultimate accountability for the strategic direction of the unit, making decisions that strike a balance between business objectives, financial considerations, and the well-being of our people

Strategic vision will be crucial in shaping the future of the region's workforce, ensuring the unit maintains a streamlined operating model aligned with the evolving needs of the business. Leading a team of high-caliber P&O business partners, you will collaborate closely with various centers of excellence in Talent Acquisition, Associate Relations, Employer Branding, and Talent Development to deliver against the people agenda effectively. You will also play a pivotal role in fostering a dynamic and inclusive workplace culture, nurturing talent to export beyond MEA into GEM and Mars Inc and driving organizational excellence across the region.

What are we looking for?

Education & Professional Qualification

Minimum qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Management or related field. Masters/ Post Graduate Degree in Human Resources, Business, Management or related field would be desirable

Knowledge/Experience

  • 10 or more years of progressive P&O and/or leadership experience.
  • Prior P&O business partnership experience; working at senior levels in a unit or region.
  • Experience leading enterprise transformations.
  • Demonstrated capability in developing strategies at the unit leadership team level.
  • Demonstrated capability in leading large scale change management.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills, using a comprehensive approach with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent business acumen / business experience and organizational agility.
  • Strong consulting skills and ability to influence decisions to a positive business outcome.

What will be your key responsibilities?

The P&O Director for Middle East Africa as a strategic business partner has the ultimate responsibility on crafting along with the leadership team and associates the people agenda to enable MEA reach its Ambitions and reach $1.5Bn by 2030. A complex unit of six business clusters (Saudi Arabia, GULF, IDBU, Egypt, Sub Sahara Africa and *South Africa/ROSSA (*effective October ’24) with three factories in Egypt, Saudi and Kenya (KEC, OCT and NAI) home to over 1,200 Associates. The P&O Director will deliver against his/her role through the following five pillars.

Business partnership

Partner with the MEA GM, CFO and Leadership team consisting of six market/cluster General Managers to establish and deploy short and long-term strategies in the areas of culture, talent, capabilities, change management and organizational development to deliver against Middle East and Africa’s ambitious plans. The business partnership

starts with having a high performing unit leadership team and therefore you will co-pilot the GM on their agenda to have in place and operate high caliber individuals to enable a high performing team to lead MEA.

Human Resources

You will drive efficiency across the P&O operating model by facilitating the adoption of Mars signature programs, offering strategic guidance to unit specific projects, providing P&O Business Partner support to all functions and partnering with global stakeholders. Maintain a strong relationship with the MyP&O team to ensure all functions of the P&O model enable the business; this includes Talent Acquisition, Associate Relations, Rewards, Health and Wellbeing, MyP&O, etc.

Culture

You will role model the Five Principles every day; creating a culture of responsibility, performance and growth mindset throughout the organization. Deploy strategic plans to put MW and MEA on the map with regards to aspiring talent in the marketplace. As a key indicator of employee reputation Mars should lead across an ambitious agenda in I&D and wellbeing and to create a strong sense of belonging and where Associates can thrive every day. Foster a recognition culture to surface the best that MEA has to offer and inspire Associates to work across a very diverse culture of strong history and beliefs.

Talent

Leading best in class talent attraction, development while driving associate engagement. Understand the ‘pulse’ of the business to strengthen the health of the organization and ensure “fit for purpose” organization design with the right people in the right roles. Together with the P&O business partners and MEA LT, lead the talent, capability building and workforce planning processes for the unit. Leverage, support, and drive Mars University resources to partner closely with MEA to invest and accelerate capabilities in the units’ functions both in demand and supply.

Change Management

Support the business on the delivery of strategic change programs such as End to End planning, Integration of the South African business with MEA in October 2024 and the D30 agenda specifically around the people side of change. Leveraging change management practices and approaches to continuously evolve the business to meet both MEA’s 2030 plans and the Mars Sacking 2030 ambition.
