MENAT Legal plays an important role in protecting the Group’s reputation by helping to future-proof the organisation through robust legal risk management and advice. Responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice to senior management and all global businesses and functions in the MENAT region, the team offers a diverse range of legal skills, jurisdictional experience and practice specialisms across all countries and territories in the MENAT region in which our businesses operate.

We are currently seeking an ambitious individual to join our MENAT Legal team, working together with colleagues to define, manage and achieve divisional business targets.

In this role, you will:
**Impact on the Business / Function**
- Provide counsel and legal support in relation to material regulatory issues having an impact on the WPB businesses.
- To be considered to be a trusted adviser to the business by ensuring that commercially sensitive, pragmatic and practical legal support and advice is provided in a cost-effective manner.
- Provide support and guidance to the WPB businesses in MENAT with regard to legal risks arising in jobholder’s area of expertise

**Customers / Stakeholders**
- Legal advice and assistance are supported and managed to facilitate the provision of efficient and effective advice as required by senior management
- Legal implications and risks of initiatives and/or complex matters are effectively communicated to and understood by the business area

**Leadership & Teamwork**
- Maintain and develop positive and professional working relationships with all team members within the MENAT Legal Team and all key stakeholders
- Participate effectively as part of the MENAT Legal Team and the Global WPB Legal Team
- Clearly communicate MENAT WPB strategy requirements and management expectations to WPB lawyers in MENAT
- Lead, manage, review, guide and support lawyers and support staff in WPB Legal, MENAT
- Establish and develop a strategy for the co-ordination and promotion of initiatives that result in the sharing of legal knowledge and best practices with and across the MENAT Legal Function

**Operational Effectiveness & Control**
- Provide legal services in a cost-effective manner
- Assist in managing the approach to legal risk in WPB to ensure that the interests of the HSBC Group are adequately protected
- Assist the business to remain compliant with legal risk management requirements set out in the Group Standards Manual and Legal FIM.

Requirements

**To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements**:

- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is mandatory
- Qualified Solicitor
- Deep knowledge of WPB products and experience of banking transactions either in private practice or in house.
- Knowledge of the HSBC Group corporate structures, its business and personnel and a clear understanding of HSBC’s corporate culture;
- Ability to prioritise;
- Communication and inter-personal skills;
- Strong leadership skills;
- People management skills;
- Presentation skills
- Lateral thinking / problem solving

Under the New Labour Law, only fixed term contracts shall be available to all employees of HSBC UAE (except DIFC and ADGM employees) - hence in line with the term of work permit, a 2 years’ contract would be issued.
