**Role Overview**

The Head of Strategic Planning & Stress Testing Execution is critical to the success of Strategic Planning & Stress Testing. The role holder will be accountable for:

- Driving a consistent standard from a methodology and execution perspective across all forecasting deliverables ranging from Regulatory Stress tests, Financial Resource Planning (FRP), Budgeting, ICAAP, Climate Stress Testing, Earnings volatility, what if analysis, and Reverse Stress Testing
- Execution of regional ad-hoc stress tests, including small country exercises, reverse stress testing and ‘what-if’ and deep-dive analysis leveraging group capabilities and regional top-down benchmarking tools; owning the implementation, execution and maintenance of associated controls
- First line accountability for the interpretation, review and challenge of modelled retail and wholesale impairments and RWAs for BAU Stress Tests and production of insights and implications; acting as a liaison between the Group Execution team and local wholesale and retail credit risk teams
- First line of defence accountability for Model Risk Management and Non-Financial Risk (NFR) management for MENAT SP&ST

The Head of Strategic Planning & Stress Testing Execution will work in partnership with SP&ST and Risk leads across the region and group to deliver high quality consistent outputs which can support commercial, capital and strategic decision making.

**Principal responsibilities**

Responsible for designing and the ongoing optimisation of frameworks and standards that underpin all forecasting activities, such that timely, accurate and insightful management information can be provided to HSBC executives.

This includes the framework for all regulatory deliverables as well as internal forecasting, planning and stress testing deliverables to support decision making and manage business performance (eg, FRP, earnings volatility, tail risk analysis)

Responsible for the execution of all ad hoc stress tests required by regulators or HSBC management across HSBC MENAT markets in addition to HBME and UAE reverse stress testing, and ‘what-if’ sensitivity analysis. This includes coordination with risk, business, country and SME teams to collect required inputs and the modelling of outcomes using group and locally developed capabilities

Responsible for the interpretation, review and challenge of modelled retail and wholesale impairments and RWAs for BAU Stress Tests including ACS, GIST and EWST. Working with the Group SPST Execution team, and in Liaison with MENAT credit risk teams, interpret and understand model outputs and drivers taking ownership to explain these to MENAT stakeholders at appropriate governance forums with the aid of high-quality materials to effectively communicate insight and implications

Creating transparency and comparability across all forecasting activities, which will support business leaders to make strategic and operational decisions that drive high performance across the Group.

Initiate and drive engaged business discussions on modelled outputs to mitigate risks and drive enhanced performance

Contribute to building and leading a high performing team

Work collaboratively with colleagues to identify, develop and leverage talent across this team

Run processes in an auditable and transparent manner. Explain processes to Internal Audit and to regulators, and address issues where identified

Leadership over all regulatory and compliance matters and the management of operational risk in the area of responsibility

Requirements

**To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements**:

- Proven ability to develop, use and evaluate quantitative analysis through models and statistical techniques, to generate results for scenario analyses or to independently review & challenge of the results of others
- Strong understanding of stress testing and planning process and their role in the management of the bank and in regulatory relationships;
- Good understanding of the bank’s capital and liquidity management processes
- Proven ability to form judgements and provide advice about risk and its management: risk to the bank and risk in the departments own operations
- Ability to design effective control framework to measure and manage those risks.
- Well-developed ability to consult and communicate effectively including to senior management, Board members and regulators.
- Proven ability in handling competing priorities
- Sound judgment, decision making and problem solving abilities
