Scope of Responsibilities


As a business development officer, you'll identify new business opportunities in order to generate revenue, improve profitability and help the business grow.


Your work can involve careful strategic planning and positioning in the appropriate markets, or enhancing the operation of the business, position or reputation in some way.


Skills and Experience
Ideally Business Development Officer will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Excellent communication, creative thinking and networking skills.
  • Strong project management and presentation skills.
  • Social media savvy, with knowledge of branding, ideation, and marketing processes.
  • Knowledge and experience with creative software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator) or other online graphic design tools.

Primary Duties


Business Development Officer will need a strategic mindset with a background in marketing and communications in a business-to-business professional services environment.

You will be an effective communicator with a natural ability to engage, enthuse and build strong relationships with diverse stakeholder networks.


Central to the success of this role is a deep understanding of Petrocontracts business profile, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and knowledge of client / contractor means and methods on a variety of different types of jobs (i.e., energy, oil & gas, petrochemicals, refineries, water & wastewater treatment, buildings, power, etc.).


Role accountabilities:

As a business development officer, you'll need to:

  • have a good understanding of Petrocontracts services and be able to advise others about them.
- research and identify new business opportunities - including new markets, growth areas, trends, customers, partnerships, services - or new ways of reaching existing markets.
- seek out the appropriate contact in an organisation.
- generate leads and cold call prospective customers.
- meet with customers/clients face to face or over the phone.
- foster and develop relationships with customers/clients.
- understand the needs of our customers and be able to respond effectively with a plan of how to meet these
- think strategically - seeing the bigger picture and setting aims and objectives in order to develop and improve the business.
- work strategically - carrying out necessary planning in order to implement operational changes.
