Roles and responsibilities
  • Conduct land surveys andmeasurements to establish reference points, boundaries, andcontours for construction projects.
  • Oversee andmanage surveying activities on road infrastructure projects,ensuring accuracy and compliance with projectspecifications.
  • Utilize advanced surveyingequipment and technology to collect, analyze, and interpret surveydata.
  • Prepare survey reports, maps, anddrawings depicting survey results andfindings.
  • Collaborate with engineers,architects, and construction teams to provide accurate survey datafor project planning and design.
  • Verify theaccuracy of completed work and ensure adherence to relevantstandards and regulations.
  • Train and mentorjunior surveying staff, providing guidance and support asneeded.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, andregulatory agencies to address survey-related inquiries andissues.
  • Monitor project progress and provideregular updates to project managementteams.
  • Implement quality control procedures tomaintain the highest standards of surveying accuracy andprecision.

  • Bachelor's degree inSurveying, Civil Engineering, or relatedfield.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience workingas a Land Surveyor on road infrastructureprojects.
  • Proficiency in operating surveyingequipment such as total stations, GPS, and laserscanners.
  • Strong knowledge of surveyingtechniques, methodologies, andprinciples.
  • Excellent analytical andproblem-solving skills.
  • Ability to workeffectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple taskssimultaneously.
  • Exceptional communication andinterpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with akeen eye for accuracy andprecision.
  • Familiarity with relevant softwareapplications such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, andGIS.
  • Valid professional license orcertification as a Land Surveyor ispreferred.

1.Surveying and DataCollection

  • LandMeasurements : Using specialized equipment to measuredistances, angles, and elevations on land. This includes workingwith total stations, GPS systems, and levelinginstruments.
  • BoundarySurveys : Determining and marking property boundariesfor legal, real estate, or construction purposes. This may involveresearching historical records and maps to establish correctboundary lines.
  • TopographicSurveys : Collecting data to create maps showing thecontours, slopes, and features of the land, including trees,rivers, and man-madestructures.
  • GeodeticSurveys : Conducting surveys based on theEarth's curvature, used for larger-scale projects orgeographic information systems (GIS)mapping.
  • ConstructionLayouts : Providing surveying support forconstruction projects by laying out key reference points andelevations for buildings, roads, utilities, and otherinfrastructure.
  • Aerial and DroneSurveys : Using drones (UAVs) for aerial surveys,capturing images and data of land or large-scale projects to createdetailed maps or 3Dmodels.
  • Mining and ResourceSurveys : Conducting surveys in resource explorationand mining, determining the size, location, and distribution ofmineral deposits.

2.Technical and SoftwareSkills

  • SurveyingEquipment Proficiency : Proficiency in usingtraditional and modern surveying instruments like Total Stations,GPS/GNSS systems, laser scanners, levels, anddrones.
  • GISSoftware : Expertise in Geographic InformationSystems (GIS) software to analyze and interpret survey data.Popular software tools may include ArcGIS, QGIS, andothers.
  • CADSoftware : Using Computer-Aided Design (CAD)software, such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, to prepare and present surveydata in the form of maps, plans, anddrawings.
  • DataProcessing : Processing collected data using softwaretools to produce reports, maps, or 3D models, ensuring accuracy andcompleteness in the finaldeliverables.
  • SurveyingCalculations : Performing complex calculations toadjust measurements, compute areas, angles, and elevations, andensure that the results meet regulatorystandards.

3. ProjectManagement andCoordination

  • Planningand Organizing Surveys : Planning and coordinatingfieldwork by preparing survey routes, obtaining permits, andensuring the necessary equipment isavailable.
  • TeamCollaboration : Collaborating with engineers,architects, construction managers, and other professionals toensure the survey data supports the design and planningprocess.
  • ClientInteraction : Communicating with clients,contractors, and local authorities to clarify requirements, reporton progress, and ensure that survey data aligns with projectspecifications.

4.Legal and RegulatoryCompliance

  • BoundaryDisputes : Assisting in the resolution of propertyboundary disputes by verifying historical data, consulting legalrecords, and providing expert testimony ifnecessary.
  • Compliance withRegulations : Ensuring that surveys comply with localzoning laws, environmental regulations, and land use codes,following legal standards and industrypractices.
  • Permit and LicenseManagement : Acquiring necessary permits forsurveying work and ensuring adherence to local, state, or nationallaws related to land use, construction, and environmentalimpact.
