Roles and responsibilities

1. Land Measurement and Mapping

  • Conducting Surveys: Performing field surveys to measure land features, boundaries, and contours. This involves using specialized instruments like total stations, GPS, and laser scanners.
  • Mapping Property Boundaries: Identifying and marking land boundaries to establish property lines and easements, ensuring accuracy in property documentation and legal descriptions.
  • Topographic Surveys: Producing detailed topographic maps showing the contours and elevations of the land. These maps are essential for civil engineering and construction projects.
  • As-Built Surveys: Measuring existing conditions on a site, such as buildings, roads, utilities, and other structures, to create as-built drawings or to verify construction progress.

2. Use of Surveying Instruments

  • Total Stations: Operating electronic total stations to measure angles and distances and compute precise locations for land boundaries and construction projects.
  • GPS Technology: Using GPS receivers to obtain accurate coordinates of land features and ensure high-precision measurements over large areas.
  • Laser Scanners: Utilizing 3D laser scanners to capture highly detailed land topography and infrastructure features.
  • Surveying Software: Employing software like AutoCAD, GIS, and specialized surveying programs to process and analyze field data, create maps, and generate accurate reports.

3. Boundary and Legal Surveys

  • Boundary Determination: Identifying and verifying property boundaries for legal purposes, including subdivisions, land sales, and disputes.
  • Property Deeds and Legal Descriptions: Reviewing legal documents, such as property deeds and titles, to understand boundary lines and easements. Creating accurate legal descriptions for land transactions.
  • Easements and Encroachments: Identifying and documenting easements, rights of way, or encroachments that may affect land development or use.

4. Site Surveys for Construction Projects

  • Construction Staking: Marking the layout of a construction site based on design plans, ensuring that buildings, roads, utilities, and other infrastructure are correctly positioned on the land.
  • Excavation and Grading: Ensuring that excavation and grading work aligns with the approved design and that elevations are maintained correctly for proper drainage and foundation placement.
  • Monitoring Site Progress: Regularly revisiting the site to check that construction work aligns with the survey data, and making adjustments if necessary.

5. Environmental Surveys

  • Topographic and Environmental Mapping: Collecting data on natural features like rivers, streams, vegetation, and other environmental factors that could impact construction projects.
  • Wetlands and Floodplain Surveys: Mapping wetlands, floodplains, and other protected areas, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and permitting requirements.
  • Geodetic Surveys: Conducting large-scale geodetic surveys to monitor land movements, such as in areas with seismic activity or for long-term environmental monitoring.

6. Data Collection and Analysis

  • Field Data Collection: Gathering data through direct measurements, GPS coordinates, and observations in the field.
  • Data Processing: Using specialized software to process survey data and create accurate land maps, 3D models, or CAD drawings.
  • Analysis and Reporting: Analyzing collected data to ensure the accuracy of maps and reports. Preparing technical reports and delivering data to project teams, architects, engineers, or government officials.
Desired candidate profile
  • Performs a variety of tasks in support of survey or construction activities.
  • Duties may differ depending on the specialty area.
  • Activities may include setting up and operating equipment; inspecting equipment; inspection of engineering installations for compliance with specifications; maintaining project documentation; assisting with the building, repair, or maintenance of a structure or roadway.
  • Relies on basic understanding of procedures and company policies to plan and accomplish basic goals.
  • Performs a variety of routine tasks and works under close supervision.
  • Entry-level position; may not require previous experience.
  • Aware of Civil Infrastructure works including roads, wet utilities and drry utilities in UAE.

Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelor Degree/Diploma in relevant Engineering field (i.e. Civil , Geodetic or related field.)

Experience

  • The ideal candidate to be Civil Engineering graduate with minimum 7+ years' experience in land surveying field and setting out of works of similar nature or Diploma holder with minimum 10+ years' experience in the land surveying field in similar works.
