Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to join our team at New York University. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a variety of research projects in spatial economics, under the supervision of Professor Jordan J Norris.

Key Responsibilities
  • Data Collection and Cleaning: Collect and clean data from relevant sources, including public and academic databases.
  • Regression Analysis: Conduct regression analysis using techniques such as OLS, IV, panel, and spatial econometrics.
  • Quantitative Analysis: Apply economic models, including Monte Carlo simulations, to analyze data and draw conclusions.
  • Documentation: Provide well-documented code, write up results in reports, and create tables and figures to communicate findings.
  • Literature Review: Conduct a thorough review of prior work to inform research directions.
  • Paper Writing: Write up research findings in an academic paper.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Economics or a similar quantitative discipline.
  • Experience: Some research experience, including a Bachelor's/Master's dissertation, research assistantship, or publications.
  • Skills: Data analysis, econometrics, data management, programming language skills, project management, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with GIS/satellite data: Familiarity with geographic information systems and satellite data.
  • Relevant economic theory: Knowledge of economic models in international trade, urban, and labor economics.
  • Quantitative economic modeling: Experience with quantitative economic modeling, including trade and spatial models.
