Maudsley Health is a joint venture between the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM), one of the largest NHS mental health trusts in the UK, and MACANI, an Abu Dhabi based organization with a commitment to developing exceptionally high-quality health care within the United Emirates.

MACANI manages the service and employs the staff and SLaM provides the clinical quality advice. Maudsley Health is the brand name used for the collaboration.


The Assistant Psychology role is an exciting opportunity to be part of an experienced team to work in the unique collaboration between Maudsley Health (MACANI) and Emirates Health Services (EHS) to support the development of a Centre of Excellence at Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital.

This role also provides the opportunity to develop research awareness and skills as a key component of the post is to support research at Al Amal.

The expected job plan would be 3 days Assistant Psychology and 2 days focused on Research.

ROLE PURPOSE
1.) To provide an assistant psychology function for Maudsley Health in Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital.

2.) To support and encourage research in Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital.

3.) From time to time the postholder may be asked to support work on projects.

4.) Your contribution should add value to the service and enhance the reputation of Maudsley Health / MACANI.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To provide clinical support under the direct supervision of a qualified psychologist who would retain clinical responsibility for patients.
  • The post holder will usually work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, which will typically include psychologists (clinical, counselling, forensic or health), social workers, occupational therapists, mental health nurses and psychiatrists.
To work as part of a multidisciplinary team and may be involved with:

a. carrying out neuropsychological assessments

b. contributing to multidisciplinary discussions about a client's presenting difficulties, formulation, treatment, risk assessment and care plan issues

c. undertaking specified behavioural observations and assessments

d. seeking and collating specific information by reading notes, investigating histories etc.

e. carrying out specified treatment and intervention programmes with patients or groups of patients

f. working with patient's carers, relatives and others involved in their care, including mental health workers

g. Undertaking audit, research and information gathering

h. Maintaining clear written records, draft reports, letters and summaries of assessments and observations of treatments.

  • In respect of Research Assistant responsibilities;
a. Following research procedures in line with study protocols and standard operating procedures, including obtaining ethical approvals and developing study protocols (e.g., conducting literature reviews) under supervision

b. Working with Clinical Academic Groups to facilitate timely participant recruitment and data collection.

c. To support the development and implementation of participant recruitment and data collection strategy for the service, potentially using surveys, focus groups, and in-depth interviews

d. Contacting and screening for eligibility potential study participants, obtaining consent, collecting data and analysis.

e. Ensuring that research data are stored securely, and confidentiality of all stored personal data is always maintained.

f. Preparing data for analyses.

g. To conduct qualitative and epidemiological analyses in multiple datasets under the supervision of senior academics using statistical software.

h. To coordinate transcription and analysis of qualitative data

i. To assist and in the writing up of studies, including drafting papers for publication in collaboration with other members of the study team

Requirements:

Must have an undergraduate degree in healthcare, psychology, social work, nursing, or another relevant area.


Postgraduate degree healthcare, psychology, social work, nursing, or another relevant area or relevant area would be preferred but not essential.

Knowledge of practicalities involved in conducting research with participants recruited from a clinical population.

Good working knowledge of Excel

Knowledge of SPSS/Stata/Rlang

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Experience of collecting and analysing data.

Ability to prioritise and organise workload.

Ability to deal with sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality of data.

Excellent work ethics; flexible and mature attitude to work.
