We at GEMS International School, Al Khail are looking for an experienced Athletics Director to join our team for the Academic Year commencing August 2025.

Job Purpose

To plan, organize, budget and supervise operation of extra-curricular programs and activities at GIS in order to provide a quality program that responds to the needs of the GIS community, thus contributing to the competitive quality of GIS and the positive image within the UAE.

Job Description includes but is not limited to:

1. SPORTS/ATHLETICS

  • Coaches - Determine requirements, collaborate with ESM, take part in the hiring process when requested, evaluate and support athletics coaches in order to ensure they meet the athletics requirements and to ensure optimal execution of the athletics program and maximal competitiveness of the teams.
  • Scheduling of practices and games - Schedule and update all practices for all teams in order to ensure synergies across all teams as well as optimal use of the available facilities.
  • Transportation - Budget, plan, organize and supervise all transportation (including STS) and accommodation of athletics teams during off-campus competitions and other trips in order to ensure cost-effective, efficient and safe transportation and accommodation.
  • Competitions - Organize home competitions and international tournaments in order to ensure they are run effectively and to promote and maintain competitive quality.
  • Order and manage sports uniforms/kits to represent the school.
  • Safety procedures - In close cooperation with the MSO supervise adherence to the health and safety procedures of GIS in order to ensure compliance.
  • Supporting the external ECA's.
Skills

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A certified professional teaching qualification at degree level, such as B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE or equivalent specialism in Physical Education.
  • A minimum of 3 years of solid and demonstrable experience within a similar role, ideally within an IB Curriculum School; however, this is not mandatory.
  • Experience in working in a middle or senior leadership role preferred.
  • Leadership experience is preferred but not necessary.
  • Experience in athletic events and coaching.
  • Team and resource management, strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Ability to motivate a team and command respect.
  • The experience, personality and educational philosophy to drive further the education agenda at this flagship GEMS school with an international student body.
  • The desire to provide outstanding teaching and learning.
