About the Job

We are looking for an experimental and technically fluent Quantum Art Researcher / Technologist to explore, prototype, and produce work at the intersection of quantum computation and contemporary art. In this role you will research quantum and quantum-inspired algorithms for creative uses, build hybrid quantum–classical toolchains, and collaborate closely with artists, designers and engineers to create generative artworks, interactive installations, and exhibition-ready pieces. This is a research-minded production role — you will publish prototypes, help translate academic ideas into tangible creative systems, and push practical boundaries using both quantum hardware and high-quality simulators.

Responsibilities

Research & Experimentation: Investigate quantum algorithms and quantum-inspired methods (variational circuits, quantum annealing, amplitude encoding, randomized circuits) for generative art, procedural content, and novel visual/sonic textures.

Prototype Development: Build end-to-end prototypes that combine quantum runtimes (simulators or real devices) with classical ML, DSP or generative pipelines; iterate rapidly and produce exhibition-ready outputs.

Hybrid Workflows: Design and implement hybrid quantum–classical workflows (preprocessing, encoding, postprocessing, inference) and tooling to make quantum resources usable for artists.

Tooling & Integration: Create libraries, APIs and plugins that integrate quantum backends with creative software stacks (Python, , Unity/Unreal, TouchDesigner, Max/MSP), plus reproducible pipelines for deployment.

Performance & Fidelity: Measure and document the behaviour and limitations of quantum devices (noise, sampling) and implement mitigation/denoising strategies appropriate for creative outcomes.

Collaboration with Artists: Translate artistic briefs into technical specs, run creative workshops, and co-design iterative prototypes with non-technical collaborators.

Exhibitions & Demos: Support installation, on-site setup and live demos; prepare technical documentation and presentation materials for exhibitions, talks and publications.

Publication & Outreach: Write technical notes, blog posts or academic-style papers on methods and findings; present work at conferences, galleries and community events.

Ethics & Context: Consider ethical, cultural and conceptual implications of quantum-enabled artworks (authorship, provenance, environmental cost) and document decisions.

Qualifications

Education & Experience: MSc/PhD or equivalent practical experience in Quantum Computing, Physics, Computer Science, Computational Arts, or a closely related field. Demonstrable creative-technical projects strongly valued.

Quantum Frameworks: Practical experience with quantum SDKs and simulators (Qiskit, Cirq, Pennylane, Braket or similar) and familiarity with basic quantum primitives and noise characteristics.

Programming: Strong software skills in Python; comfortable writing reproducible code, building small libraries/packages and integrating across toolchains.

Generative & Creative Tech: Experience with generative techniques (procedural graphics, generative adversarial methods, creative ML), and familiarity with creative toolchains , , Unity, TouchDesigner, Max/MSP etc.) is highly desirable.

Prototype to Production: Track record shipping prototypes into public demos, installations, or exhibitions — ability to turn experiments into robust, repeatable experiences.

Research Mindset: Ability to design controlled experiments, analyse noisy results, visualise outcomes, and draw rigorous conclusions from limited quantum runs.

Collaboration & Communication: Strong collaborator who can explain technical constraints to artists and stakeholders, write clear documentation, and present work to mixed audiences.

Curiosity & Adaptability: Comfortable navigating rapidly evolving toolchains and making pragmatic trade-offs between aesthetics, compute cost, and feasibility.

Nice to Have

Prior creative or gallery experience (exhibitions, artist residencies).

Knowledge of classical ML frameworks (PyTorch/TensorFlow) and experience combining them with quantum approaches.

Experience with WebGL/Shaders or real-time graphics pipelines.

Familiarity with provenance, generative art markets (NFTs) or digital rights considerations.
