About the Role

Asterix Communications is seeking a highly skilled Data Platform Site Reliability Engineer to join our dynamic international team. As a key member of our cloud engineering team, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of our data systems and applications.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Design and Implement Scalable Data Infrastructure: Develop and maintain highly available and scalable data infrastructure solutions for storing, processing, and analyzing large volumes of data.
  2. Collaborate with Data Teams: Work closely with data engineering and data science teams to define and implement operational requirements for data pipelines, ETL processes, and analytical workflows.
  3. Automate Deployment and Monitoring: Automate deployment, configuration, and monitoring of data systems and services to ensure efficient and reliable operation.
  4. Develop Monitoring and Alerting Systems: Design and implement monitoring and alerting systems to proactively identify and address issues with data availability, quality, and performance.
  5. Troubleshoot Data-Related Issues: Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues in a timely manner, minimizing impact on downstream applications and users.
  6. Implement Data Governance and Security: Implement data governance and security best practices to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our data assets.
  7. Perform Capacity Planning and Performance Tuning: Perform capacity planning and performance tuning to optimize the performance and cost-effectiveness of our data infrastructure.
  8. Participate in On-Call Rotations: Participate in on-call rotations and respond to data-related incidents outside of regular business hours when necessary.
  9. Evaluate and Adopt New Technologies: Evaluate and adopt new data technologies and tools to improve the efficiency, reliability, and scalability of our data infrastructure.
  10. Document System Designs and Configurations: Document system designs, configurations, and operational procedures to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration.
Requirements
  1. Strong Sense of Ownership and Integrity: Demonstrate a strong sense of ownership and integrity through clear communication and collaboration.
  2. Experience with Kubernetes and Highly Available Systems: Have experience in architecting, developing, operating, and troubleshooting Kubernetes clusters and/or other highly available systems at scale.
  3. Proficiency with Open-Source Data Analytics Technologies: Be proficient with the architecture, deployment, performance tuning, and troubleshooting of open-source data analytics technologies, especially Apache Spark, Trino, and related software in a large-scale environment.
  4. Ability to Design and Author Code: Have the ability to design, author, and release code in languages like Go, Python, or Java.
  5. Drive to Automate Manual Operations: Have an acute drive to automate manual operations and to improve them through repeated iteration.
  6. Understanding of Linux and Networking Protocols: Have a good understanding of the Linux Operating System, standard networking protocols, and components.
  7. Experience with Cloud-Native Services: Have experience with cloud-native services on AWS/GCP.
  8. Hands-On Experience with Configuration Management: Have hands-on experience managing large numbers of diverse systems with configuration management or software delivery platforms (such as Terraform, Cloudformation, ArgoCD, and Flux).
  9. Excellent Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving Skills: Have excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  10. Experience with Scale Testing and Disaster Recovery: Have experience with scale testing, disaster recovery, and capacity planning.
  11. Effective Communication and Collaboration Skills: Have effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to drive and promote technical partnerships across teams.
  12. Incident Response and Management Experience: Have incident response and/or incident management experience.
