Job Title: Ecological Specialist

Job Description

As an Ecological Specialist, you will play a crucial role in conducting biological assessments and monitoring efforts during construction projects that impact rare and sensitive species. Your responsibilities will encompass a variety of biological evaluations, studies, and ongoing monitoring as needed. This position requires significant fieldwork, including the preparation of daily reports and the analysis of geospatial data. Candidates should demonstrate self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in challenging outdoor environments. A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are mandatory. Candidates must have access to a vehicle suitable for fieldwork or the ability to secure a rental truck for project-related travel. Temporary relocation to specific project sites may be necessary. Additional responsibilities may include flagging construction zones, conducting avian and raptor surveys, performing vegetation assessments, screening habitats for threatened and endangered species, identifying wetlands, and surveying for noxious and invasive plant species.

Essential Skills

  • 2-4 years of experience in natural resource management, particularly in outdoor settings
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, botany, or a related field
  • Experience with BLM Sensitive Plant surveys
  • Strong skills in identifying migratory bird species

Interpersonal Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to thrive both as part of a team and independently in the field

Position Type

This is a contract role with a duration of 12 months.

Work Environment

This position is fully on-site and involves working in remote and rugged conditions.
