Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Ecologist Wetland Specialist to join our team at Actalent. As a key member of our environmental consulting team, you will be responsible for performing wetland delineations, conducting forest stand delineations and tree assessments, and assisting in the management and monitoring of stream and wetland mitigation banks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Wetland Delineations: Perform wetland delineations using the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 1987 Wetland Delineation Manual and Regional Supplements (Primarily the Eastern Mountains and Piedmont (EMP) and Atlantic & Gulf Coastal Plain (AGCP)).
  • Forest Stand Delineations and Tree Assessments: Conduct forest stand delineations and tree assessments in urban settings.
  • Environmental Studies: Perform Chesapeake Bay Area and threatened and endangered species studies.
  • Project Management: Assist in the management and monitoring of stream and wetland mitigation banks.
  • Technical Reporting: Prepare technical reports and maps in CAD and write proposals.
  • Data Analysis: Conduct data analysis.
  • Project Oversight: Oversee and manage multiple projects within client's scope, budget, schedule expectations, and ensure quality standards on all project deliverables.
  • Government Interface: Interface with local, state, and federal government agencies.
  • Mentorship: Mentor and assist in training junior staff.
  • Business Development: Participate in industry organizations and aid in business development.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, Botany, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • Experience: 3+ years of relevant environmental consulting experience, and management experience preferred.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Fundamental and working knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory regulations and processes in Virginia, Maryland, DC, and West Virginia related to land development.
  • Field Techniques: Working knowledge of field techniques for wetland delineations, plant identification, soil sampling, and threatened and endangered species studies.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines.
  • Technical Skills: High level proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal skills and experienced with effectively communicating with clients and agency.
  • Attention to Detail: Detail oriented and well-developed written/verbal communication and analytical skills.
  • Teamwork: Desire to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Travel: Ability to work a mixture of office and field work, in all seasons of the year, and regularly travel regionally.
  • Software Skills: Experience with CAD or GIS software.
  • Reporting Skills: Experience in recording/writing detailed technical reports.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Working knowledge of field techniques for wetland delineations, plant identification, soil sampling, and threatened and endangered species studies.
  • Certifications: USACE 1987 Wetland Delineation Manual and Regional Supplements (Primarily the Eastern Mountains and Piedmont (EMP) and Atlantic & Gulf Coastal Plain (AGCP)). Certified Arborist (ISA-CA) certification preferred.
