Responsibilities- Develop and Maintain a Learning Culture: Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development amongst nurses, particularly in the specialist field of neonatal care.
- Role Model and Quality Improvement: Serve as a role model and champion for quality improvement initiatives, ensuring the highest standards of care are delivered to patients in the specialist field.
- Neonatal Care and Support: Provide comprehensive care to newborn infants across the continuum, including primary, acute, chronic, and critical care, for patients suffering from various problems such as premature infants and those with congenital disabilities.
- Cognitive Development and Screening: Understand and apply knowledge of cognitive development in newborns, including aspects of testing and neonatal screening.
- Examinations and Patient Care: Conduct examinations, record patient histories, monitor patient progress, and consult with treating physicians to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Family Support and Education: Support mothers and families in selecting an effective care plan for their patients, and educate new parents on breastfeeding and child care.
- Health Monitoring and Medication Administration: Monitor the health of infants directly after birth, administer medications, and monitor patients for any side effects or reactions.
- Treatment and Support: Administer treatments such as IV fluids or blood products, and monitor patients for any reactions. Employ strategies to promote patients' health and a safe environment.
- Diagnostic Tests and Life Support: Understand different diagnostic tests and laboratory exams, and perform essential life support (BLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
- License and Qualifications: Hold an appropriate license to work as a nurse in the relevant regulatory health authority, with all the qualifications and experience this mandates.
- Specialist Field Experience: Have previous experience within the specialist field of neonatal care.
- Competencies and Revalidation: Have completed the relevant competencies within the specialist field, and manage their own professional revalidation.
- Life Support and Communication: Hold a basic life support qualification (within the past 24 months), and be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English (spoken and written).
- Desirable Qualifications: Desirable but not mandatory to have a postgraduate qualification in the specialist field, and be able to communicate effectively in Arabic.
