About the Role

The Category Manager - Beauty Cosmetics Retail will play a crucial role in supporting the Head of Commercial in developing and executing strategies to maximize sales and gross margin objectives for the Beauty Cosmetics category. This includes managing inventory objectives for specific brands and developing strategic objectives to ensure long-term sustained growth across all markets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Category Planning: Develop, implement, and deliver category plans, including range reviews, promotions, pricing, and stock management, that are consistent with the overall commercial strategy and financial objectives.
  • Marketing Collaboration: Work closely with the Marketing team to develop and implement marketing promotion plans and strategies that are relevant to the category, adhering to legislation and brand guidelines, and effectively communicating with customers to drive footfall and profitable sales.
  • Promotion Evaluation: Review and evaluate the effectiveness of promotions, taking appropriate action where necessary, and sharing best practices with peers and other stakeholders.
  • Exclusive Brands: Work with Exclusive Brands to develop and deliver exclusive products/ranges that deliver increased participation and meet agreed strategy and plans.
  • Merchandising Strategy: Collaborate with the planning team to agree on a merchandising strategy that drives and delivers the right range in the right store, ensures availability in the store, and controls slow-moving stock.
  • New Product Opportunities: Identify and implement new product opportunities that are competitively priced, commercially viable, and meet customer needs, driving sales and profitability.
  • Pricing Management: Manage and review pricing, ensuring pricing that is competitive and maximizes profitability, operating within the Company pricing strategy.
  • Forecasting and Availability: Work with the Planning team to ensure base sales and promotional forecasts are adhered to, while maintaining in-store availability to meet customer needs.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Develop effective internal working relationships with cross-functional team members to support and enhance category objectives and performance.
  • External Relationships: Develop and maintain effective external relationships to enhance the Watsons proposition and meet customer needs.
  • Negotiation Strategies: Adopt appropriate negotiation strategies to attain the best terms for the category and the business.
Requirements
  • Strong Analytical Skills: Possess strong analytical skills to drive business decisions.
  • Commercial Awareness: Demonstrate very strong commercial awareness and creative skills to develop and execute category plans.
  • Negotiation Skills: Proven negotiation skills to attain the best terms for the category and the business.

  • Communication Skills: Possess strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 6-7 years of experience as a buyer in a retail environment, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a Cosmetics industry buying role.
