Job Title: Shipbuilding Estimator
Job Summary
A Shipbuilding Estimator is responsible for developing accurate cost estimates for the construction and repair of ships and marine vessels. This role involves analyzing project requirements, researching material costs, labor, and equipment, and providing detailed reports to support budgeting and project planning. The estimator plays a critical role in ensuring projects are financially viable and meet client specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Cost Estimation:
- Analyze project specifications, blueprints, and other documentation to prepare detailed cost estimates for shipbuilding projects.
- Research and compile data on material, labor, and equipment costs.
- Work collaboratively with engineering, design, and procurement teams to validate cost assumptions.
2. Budget Management:
- Develop comprehensive project budgets and financial forecasts.
- Review and compare supplier and subcontractor bids to achieve cost efficiency.
3. Risk Assessment:
- Identify potential cost risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Provide financial recommendations and solutions to minimize project costs and enhance profitability.
4. Project Coordination:
- Collaborate with project managers and production teams to ensure estimates align with project goals and timelines.
- Monitor and update estimates as project conditions change, ensuring transparency and accuracy.
5. Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare and present estimation reports to management and clients.
- Maintain a database of past project costs for reference in future estimations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field.
- Proven experience in cost estimation within the shipbuilding or maritime industry.
- Proficiency in estimation software and tools.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations.
- Experience in project management or procurement.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
