Job Title: School Nurse (Arabian Ranches Health Office)
Branch: Arabian Ranches
Working hours: 10:30 am - 6:30 pm (Monday-Thursday) | 7:15 am - 12:15 pm (Friday)
Annual Holiday Entitlement: 45 working days per academic year (to be taken during school holidays)
Reporting to: Senior School Doctor | Head of Governance and Administration

Job Purpose:
JESS Arabian Ranches is seeking a qualified and experienced Nurse to work in conjunction with the School Doctor and Health Office in looking after the health requirements of our student body, and delivering a high standard of nursing care, in a professional, caring, and sensitive manner.

The role is a hybrid of clinical work and sports medicine; triage, treatment and first aid provision alongside medical administration for the student body, and medical treatment to athletes who have sports-related injuries or require health care related to their athletic pursuits for the JESS Sports Teams. It is a varied and interesting role with the opportunity to develop ongoing relationships with the student body, staff, and the wider school community.

Safeguarding Statement

Safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility. All staff working at JESS will have some contact with children and young people and will therefore be in a position of trust. Staff with teaching duties will be responsible for the students that they teach and may also have additional specific pastoral or other responsibilities for other students they do not teach. In addition, all staff will regularly interact with students who may seek assistance or otherwise interact with them whilst moving around the school. In all cases, staff have the responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of the students and must adhere to and always ensure compliance with the school’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and procedures to include whistleblowing and ensure all concerns are immediately passed on to the school’s Designated Safeguarding Officer(s) (DSO).

Main Tasks and Duties

The day-to-day duties will be under the direction and supervision of the School Doctor and Lead Nurse although all Health Office staff will work alongside each other dealing with students as needed. Responsibilities include:
Health Office Management:

- Day-to-day medical and first aid operations; assess, treat, and discharge students
- Administer appropriate and timely medical care for those students reporting ill with further treatment identified.
- To co-ordinate the provision of school medical examinations.
- Communicate urgent medical accidents/conditions/concerns with parents in a timely manner.
- To assist the Lead Nurse and School Doctor with Vaccinations
- Ensuring all treatment and care is documented.
- Updating confidential records using the schools’ electronic systems. Ensuring confidentiality of records is maintained.
- Providing First Aid support at school events as required, potentially including primary first aid during ECA and sporting fixtures. To arrange appropriate transfer to healthcare institutions/agencies, if required.
- Conduct growth and development and vision screening for students.
- Monitor the school population for presence of infectious and communicable disease.
- Inform parents regarding immunisations for students and maintain current immunisation history for each student.
- Maintain daily log and compile required statistics for submission to the Dubai Health Authority.
- Develop a strong partnership with the sports department, specifically advising on injuries and return to play protocols.
- Supporting and identifying students with mental health issues and liaising with school counsellors and additional support services as appropriate.
- Responsibility for safe storage, accurate record keeping and administering of medications, in line with school policy and in accordance with DHA regulations.
- To cost effectively order and maintain medical supplies and medications, monitoring expiry dates.
- Assist with maintaining strict infection control guidelines within the Health Office Ensuring the environment is compliant with Health and Safety regulations and policies.
- To deputize for the Lead Nurse in their absence.
- To maintain the school’s First Aid facilities. Ensuring that the First Aid boxes around school, portable First Aid kits for trips and Sports First Aid bags are checked termly to ensure well stocked and in date.
- Co-ordinate the checking and maintenance of the school AED’s and replace expired components, as necessary.
- Medical support for outside school trips, which could involve an overnight stay.
