Job Title: Deputy Head of Phase 2 (Primary) and IB PYP Curriculum Coordinator

Reports to: Head of Phases 1 & 2

Job Scope:
The Deputy Head of Phase 2 (Academic) and PYP Coordinator is a key member of the Phase 1 & 2 Pedagogical Leadership Team and will take responsibility for the academic development of all Phase 1 & 2 students, including implementing, coordinating, leading, and ensuring effective curriculum planning, learning and teaching, assessment and wellbeing protocol. He/She is expected to display the highest standards of professionalism in his/her teaching and in his/her relationships with colleagues and parents.

**Responsibilities**:
This not an exhaustive list of all duties/responsibilities. The responsibilities outlined may be modified by the Head of Phases 1 & 2, upon mutual agreement, to reflect or anticipate changes in the role.

Leadership:

- To work with the Head of Phases 1 & 2, School Counsellor, Deputy and Assistant Heads of Section, Deputy Head of School (Teaching & Learning) and Principal, to review, enhance and implement policy and procedure on student wellbeing.
- To induct, support and mentor teachers new to the school and IB PYP
- To support and equip middle leaders and PLT Coordinators to provide input and feedback on learning, teaching and assessment to all Phase 1 & 2 teachers.
- To oversee continued development of all teaching and learning (including writing and implementation of curriculum initiatives) through training, mentoring, classroom observation, professional development, departmental meetings, targeted sessions etc.
- To lead the school in the IB evaluation process through collaborative and shared responsibilities with PLT
- To work closely with the school community to ensure PYP continuity and the effective implementation of the IB learner profile.

Communication:

- To be an active part of the PLT and provide feedback about the progress and development of the IB PYP curriculum
- To update and inform the Principal, Deputy Head of Whole School (Teaching & Learning) and Head of Phase 1 & 2 of PYP curriculum developments
- To maintain communication between the school, IBO and other PYP schools
- To ensure information about the PYP curriculum is disseminated clearly and effectively to all members of Phase 1 & 2, including access to My IB and new published PYP curriculum documents
- To support and equip PLT Assistant Heads to deliver parent meetings and workshop opportunities to promote student wellbeing and IB PYP curriculum knowledge and understanding
- To attend coordination and development meetings with IB Curriculum Coordinators from Secondary, sharing best practice and ensuring consistent and continuous implementation of the curriculum
- To collaborate with the Head of Phase 1 & 2, Heads of department, Grade and Subject Coordinators, Principal, Deputy Head of Whole School (Teaching & Learning) and Head of Operations in determining curriculum resources
- To ensure that PYP teachers keep long-range plans for the PYP curriculum up to date
- To collaborate in the preparation and submission of any documentation required in advance of KHDA/DSIB and CIS inspections
