**Systems Librarian**
The Systems Librarian is responsible for providing leadership and primary responsibility in configuring, developing, and
sustaining the library services platform, discovery systems, and other systems used to manage library processes. The
Systems Librarian is also responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising all technology resources for the effective
functioning of the library.
**Principal Responsibilities**:
**Department Leadership**
- Provides on-site leadership to the Technical Services Unit and ensures effective unit operations when off-site.
- Exercises independent judgment and discretion by making decisions to depart from standard policy or
- procedure as deemed necessary after consulting the Library Director.- Support and ensure the interoperability of our Library management system, authentication system and other
- auxiliary systems.- Participates in the evaluation and review of new work processes and tools.
- Compiles statistics, analyzes data, and prepares reports relating to areas of responsibility in support of Unit and
- Library goals.- Evaluates the needs of the library and suggests the appropriate hardware, software and the implementation of
- new technologies.- Manages the library website.
- Develops and recommends policy and procedures for use of computers and computer systems in alignment with
- the University IT policies.- Prepares the Unit’s budget in cooperation with the Library Director.
- Represents library at meetings and functions assigned to by the Library Director.
**Systems Management**
- Participates in implementing, testing, configuring and maintaining ILS, ILL, university repository, proxy, and other
library systems.
- Acts as a liaison between the vendor and the Library for problem resolution and enhancement requests and as
Library’s representative to the systems user groups;
- Installs configures and tests new software versions.
- Manages interoperability of the ILS and other discovery and access tools including, the discovery system, off
- campus authentication, and Interlibrary loan.- Generates system reports from the systems and others as needed.
- Resolves and troubleshoots problems with computer hardware, software, networks, and LAN/WAN
- connectivity.- Prepares documentation and manual procedures related to the library systems.
**Staff & User Support**
- Provides technical support for new institutional projects related to information systems.
- Trains staff in the use of new systems and technologies.
- Assists in the use of equipment and software to library users during opening hours.
- Trains and assists users on the use of OPAC and electronic resources.
- Collaborate broadly with colleagues to ensure that library materials are readily discoverable and accessible to
- meet users’ needs.- Meets regularly with instruction librarians to discuss new tools, resources, and approaches to instruction.
- Collaborates with other Library departments on common projects and tasks.
**Technical Management**
- Supervises the activities of the technical requirements including maintenance, installation, configuration and
technical support for all workstations, i.e., hardware, software and associated peripherals in the public and staff
areas.
- Maintaining inventory of hardware and software, as well as and computer-related supplies.
- Collaborates and coordinates with the University IT Office in technical support.
- Liaises with Information Technology Services with respect to the library’s servers and desktop computers
**Other**
- Attends all relevant staff meetings scheduled during regular working hours.
- Participate in Library and Bridge teams/working groups as assigned.
- Serves as a backup to other staff as needed and as requested by the supervisor.
- Performs other duties as requested by the library leadership.
**Competencies and Skills Used**:
- Professional experience in an academic library.
- Flexibility, enthusiasm, and ability to work effectively with faculty, students, staff, and the general public.
- General knowledge of library workflows such as circulation, cataloging, acquisitions, e-resources and interlibrary
- loan, and familiarity with basic cataloging standards.- Experience updating OCLC holdings.
- An active awareness of new technologies and the impact they have on a rapidly changing library technology
- landscape.- Strong interpersonal, analytical, oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Supervisory experience leading, developing, and managing staff.
- Strong analytical and project management skills with a demonstrated ability to think strategically, set priorities,
