General EHS Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with departments such as HR, Finance, Production, Engineering, Supply Chain, and more to ensure integrated EHS efforts across the organization.

  • Ensure EHS risk assessments are updated, effective, and well-communicated, including for Erection & Commissioning (E&C) sites.

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with relevant local EHS regulations.

  • Attend employee or governing body meetings (e.g., works councils) to align on EHS requirements.

  • Collaborate with HR to identify and address EHS training needs.

  • Train and coach leaders, sponsors, and management teams in EHS best practices.

  • Organize Genba Walks for leadership teams and ensure follow-up on observations.

  • Conduct regular EHS inspections and address any findings.

  • Investigate incidents using root cause analysis tools (e.g., 5Why, Fishbone, 8D) and implement corrective actions.

  • Partner with HR to develop recognition programs around safety and environmental achievements.

  • Track and report EHS Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

  • Implement preventive safety measures to minimize risk of loss from fire, theft, or hazardous storage/transport.

  • Maintain ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications.

  • Lead internal and external audits, including those from customers, suppliers, and regulators.

  • Track progress on EHS action items and prepare budgets for EHS activities.

Environmental Focus:

  • Stay updated and ensure compliance with all applicable environmental laws and standards.

  • Lead implementation of environmental management systems beyond minimum regulatory requirements, such as hazardous waste handling, permitting, and water treatment.

  • Leverage business and operations understanding to align environmental programs with organizational goals.

  • Foster a safety-oriented culture through coaching and influence, even without direct authority.

Erection & Commissioning Focus:

  • Ensure compliance with local EHS laws and develop readiness systems.

  • Implement GE-specific management systems and standards.

  • Understand project dynamics to manage EHS risks effectively.

  • Coach employees and contractors in sustainable safety culture practices.

  • Develop EHS strategies in line with project-specific contractual obligations.

  • Lead site EHS planning and on-ground monitoring including audits and reporting.

  • Oversee contractor qualification and chemical management, including safe handling of hazardous substances via SDS.

People Management:

  • Lead the EHS team by setting clear objectives and ensuring alignment with company standards.

  • Coach and develop team members to ensure they have the right skills and capabilities.

  • Conduct regular performance evaluations in line with the organization's performance cycle.

Qualifications & Preferred Characteristics:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Environmental, etc.).

  • NEBOSH or IOSH certification; ISO 14001 & 45001 Lead Auditor preferred.

  • Strong verbal and written English skills.

  • 10+ years in an EHS leadership role.

  • Proven problem-solving and relationship-building capabilities.

  • Experience in industrial sectors such as transformer manufacturing or civil works.

  • Expertise in EHS programs like Lockout-Tagout, Confined Space, High Voltage Safety, Ergonomics (REBA/RULA), BBS, ADR Transport, Emergency Preparedness, and more.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools.

  • Willingness to travel up to 20%.
