Roles and responsibilities

  • ASpecialist Physician is a medicaldoctor who focuses on diagnosing, treating, and managing specificmedical conditions within a particular area of medicine. Thesespecialists have advanced training in their chosen field, allowingthem to provide expert care and guidance to patients dealing withcomplex or specific health issues. Depending on their specialty, aspecialist physician might work in areas like cardiology,gastroenterology, dermatology, or oncology, among manyothers.

  • Examining patients, takingmedical histories, addressing patients' concerns, andanswering patients'questions.
  • Diagnosing and treating injuries,illnesses, and disorders.
  • Ordering, performing,and interpreting diagnostic tests and explaining the results topatients.
  • Counseling patients on diet, hygiene,preventative healthcare, and other lifestylechanges.
  • Updating patients' charts andinformation to reflect current findings andtreatments.
  • Recommending and designingtreatment plans.
  • Prescribing medications ortherapies.
  • Explaining medical procedures topatients.

Qualifications

  • A medical degree and the successfulcompletion of a residency and internship.
  • Astate license and certification to practicemedicine.

  • Dependingon the specialty, performing medical procedures such asendoscopies, biopsies, catheterizations, or minorsurgeries.
