Roles and responsibilities

The Geotechnical Engineerwill be responsible for overseeing and managing all geotechnicalengineering activities for a rail project. This role involvesvalidating the design provided by the contractor, ensuringcompliance with geotechnical standards, and providing supportduring the construction supervision phase. The GeotechnicalEngineer will work closely with various departments to ensure thesuccessful execution of the project, particularly focusing onunderground railway stations and major transportationprojects.

Roles AndResponsibilities

  • Validate the geotechnical designprovided by the contractor, ensuring compliance with projectrequirements and geotechnicalstandards.
  • Oversee site investigations andgeotechnical surveys to gather data on soil, rock, and groundwaterconditions.
  • Conduct geotechnical analysis andprovide recommendations for foundation design, slope stability, andground improvement techniques.
  • Identify andmitigate geotechnical risks, providing advice on potentialopportunities and threats.
  • Provide regularprogress reports to the client and internal stakeholders,highlighting any geotechnical risks andopportunities.
  • Ensure the provision of allnecessary geotechnical data to the Contract Administration SeniorManager.
  • Provide technical support during theconstruction supervision phase, addressing any geotechnical issuesthat arise.
  • Work closely with the requireddepartments to ensure compliance with any legal, financial, andcorporate protocols.
  • Prepare and delivergeotechnical presentations as required.
  • Driveprogression via coordination meetings, ensuring all geotechnicalobligations are met.
  • Review and approvegeotechnical reports, drawings, and specifications submitted by theD&B contractor.
  • Monitor and evaluatethe performance of geotechnical works during construction, ensuringadherence to design specifications and qualitystandards.
  • Liaise with external consultants,contractors, and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance withgeotechnical requirements.
  • Conduct site visitsand inspections to assess ground conditions and verify theimplementation of geotechnicalrecommendations.
  • Provide training and guidanceto junior engineers and project team members on geotechnicalmatters.

Qualifications AndEducational Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree inGeotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field. AMaster's degree ispreferred.
  • Professional certifications such asProfessional Engineer (PE) or equivalent are highlydesirable.
Desired candidate profile
  • Minimum of 10 – 15+ years ofexperience in geotechnical engineering, preferably in undergroundrailway stations or major transportationprojects.
  • In-depth knowledge of geotechnicalprinciples, construction contracts, and industrystandards.
  • Strong analytical, communication,and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple geotechnicalaspects and stakeholders effectively.
  • Priorexperience in a large transportation/rail or similar project willbe a requirement.

PreferredSkills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solvingskills, with the ability to identify and mitigate geotechnicalrisks specific to underground railway stations and majortransportation projects.
  • High level ofattention to detail, ensuring accuracy in geotechnical assessmentsand validations.
  • Proven leadership skills, withthe ability to lead and motivate a team in a high-pressureenvironment.
  • Experience in managing complexprojects, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and handlemultiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellentcommunication skills, with the ability to present complexgeotechnical information clearly and concisely to stakeholders atall levels.
  • Proficiency in geotechnicalsoftware and tools, as well as a strong understanding ofengineering and construction processes.
