New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint aResidential College Director reporting to Residential ExperienceManager.
The Residential College Director (RCD) directs all aspects of thecommunity development programs and services for an assignedResidential College. The RCD directly supervises a studentstaff of1620 Resident Assistants (RAs). As a member of Residential Lifethis position manages the daytoday community engagement initiativesin an effort to foster a sense of community to enrich the studentsuniversity experience. The RCD serves as a student conduct hearingofficer serves on departmental committees and overseesadministrative aspects of the residential college. The RCD alsoparticipates in the recruitment selection and training processes ofthe RAs. The RCD is a member of the oncall duty rotation team andhas some evening and weekend responsibilities.
KeyResponsibilities:
Resident AssistantSupervision
  • Conductbiweekly staff meetings with the Resident Assistants to discusstrends in the residential college community provide necessarydepartmental/institutional updates review program initiativesfacilitate continued learning and development and recognize staffcontributions
  • In liaison with the ResidentialExperience Manager support the planning and execution of monthlyFirst Tuesdays
  • Facilitate 1:1 meetings withResident Assistants
  • Create and assign RA OfficeHours schedule and RA on call duty rotation for academic yearensuring appropriate office staffing and completion ofadministrative tasks
  • Assess the development andskills of the Resident Assistants through regular office hourstouchpoints and provide individualized opportunities to challengeand support their development as studentleaders
  • Provide ongoing feedback and conductmidyear and end of year performanceevaluations
  • Facilitate and communicatedisciplinary action processes for Resident Assistants who fail tomeet expectations.
  • Participate in therecruitment and selection process for the Resident Assistantsincluding but not limited to hosting information sessions scoringapplications facilitating group interviews conducting individualinterviews and hiring competitiveapplicants
CommunityDevelopment
  • Facilitateintentional RC Highline Welcome Events every semester in liaisonwith RC RAs to welcome returningstudents
  • Oversee and implement the ResidentialExperience Curriculum including by defining monthly ResidentAssistant expectations reviewing program proposals and evaluationsproviding feedback and tracking the program requirements. Thisincludes strategic planning and development to foster engagementand promote learning in the community
  • Superviseindividual RA Curriculum programs including but not limited to:event reviews budget approvals logistical and purchase support andfeedback processes
  • Role model and lead severalcommunity development programs and initiatives within ResidentialExperience
  • Develop supportive and collaborativerelationships with Student Affairs stakeholders including but notlimited to Campus Safety EFS RCS Housekeeping staff to maintain aliving and learning environment
  • SupportResidential Life signature and hallmarkevents
  • Serve as a core Community Values Teammember and Student Conduct Officer to promote and uphold communityvalues including through regular CVT meetings student conductconferences and applications of necessary restorativepractices
ResidentialCollegeAdministration
  • Manage andcontrol residential college expenditures for the ResidentAssistants including the oversight of programming budgets pettycash purchasing card reimbursements chartfields procurementprocesses and financial records
  • Utilize andpossess an understanding of StarRez and other IT processes in orderto navigate residential rosters and execute room changes asneeded
  • Maintain student conduct records througheffective use of the Advocate software; document and submitcomprehensive incident reports; train RA staff on appropriateAdvocate reporting
  • Coordinate communicationsand meetings with students found in possible violation ofuniversity and/or residential college policies in liaison with theCommunity Values Team including student availability reviewAdvocate processing and sanctioning followup
  • Inliaison with the Student Life Operations team support thecoordination of RAs and shiftscheduling of the check out and checkin process including staff tabling occupancy verification andBed4Bed Exchanges
  • Oversight of Summer Housingstudent staff operational processes and programming elements duringsummer term transitionperiods
ParaprofessionalCounselor
  • Serve as aresource for students through the engagement of criticalconversations when addressing student behavior and providingnecessary referrals to assist students in making educated decisionsintegrating NYU Connect into the referralprocess
  • Provide advice and support to studentswith personal or interpersonal problems and refer students asnecessary to other offices and resources atNYUAD
  • Participate in the Residential Life 24/7rotating on call system which is a weekly rotation responding tostudent incidents or crises such as medical mental health andfacilities emergencies. This includes supervising the RAs on calland responding to Campus Safety support requests afterhours
  • Responsible for the Universitys initialresponse to student incidents on weekends holidays and afterbusiness hours in the residential college including universityclosures and transition periods throughout the academicyear
  • Provide appropriate postcrisis followupnecessary to renormalize the students life through adviceinformation and referral andsupport
OrganizationsCommittees Special Initiatives & Student AffairsSupport
  • Serve oncollaterals or working groups to ameliorate the student experienceand improve processes
  • Attend all departmentaland Student Affairs training sessions and divisional gatherings asrequired.
  • Connect with other university officessuch as Campus Safety Facilities and Health & Wellness andmake referrals when deemed appropriate
  • Maintainpartnerships with other university offices and departments toidentify collaboration opportunities inform students of relevantinformation and offer/solicit support for communityefforts
  • Train and serve as a SLICECT ConflictTransformer engaging in regular sessions andupskilling
  • Represent the department as a memberof university wide committees as well as participate in staffdevelopment opportunities offered by other campusoffices
  • The RCD is encouraged to maintaininvolvement at the regional national and international level withinprofessional development organizations as well as attend localregional and nationalconferences
Perform otherrelated duties as required and assignedQualifications: RequiredEducation:
  • BachelorsDegree in a related field
PreferredEducation:
  • Masters Degreepreferably in higher education administration counseling or collegestudent personnel
Required Experience:
  • 2years of related experience within a residential education program(including program development and implementation facilitymanagement and staff supervision) or equivalentcombination
  • Experience in program developmentpersonal counseling/crisis intervention and prior involvement withResident Assistants are crucial. Demonstrated ability to workcollaboratively with a variety of individuals isessential
  • Must be highly motivatedenergetic and ready to assume the responsibility for acomprehensive program; must be imaginative and creative; able topromote and motivate high enthusiasm for residence life program.
  • Display exceptionalcustomer service skills; maintain and exercise sound judgment anddiscretion in handling confidential information
  • Demonstrate culturalsensitivity and work effectively with multiple diverse populations.Experience and commitment to working with an internationalcommunity is essential
  • An appreciation for the relationship between the academic andresidence life programs at a private liberal arts institution isessential
