The school which opened in September 2015, has already established a reputation for excellence in learning, teaching and leadership in the region. The Post
Applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals who are passionate and forward thinking and who will thrive in the vibrant learning environment of Hartland. By being ambitious, not only for students but for yourself, you will help us build and maintain a successful programme of study in Music by sharing in the responsibility for teaching, learning, enrichment and pastoral care. The successful candidate will also be expected to make a contribution to our unique and strong enrichment programme which ensures that learning and opportunity are diverse for all.
Music is taught across the whole school from FS1 to Year 13 using the English National Curriculum as a starting point but using an enhanced curriculum that has been devised by staff at Hartland. As part of the Primary curriculum students learn music through instrument playing and at Key Stage 2, all year groups have an instrument assigned that they learn for a year. At Key Stage 3 we focus on the 3 core skills of listening, composing and performing, taught through various units such as Blues and Film Music in preparation for GCSE. At GCSE and A Level we follow the Edexcel specifications.
Music is taught in a well-resourced music department and students have access to 8 practice rooms, a music technology room equipped with Macs and MIDI keyboard setups and a state of the art recording studio with large live room. The jewel in the crown is our 640 seat theatre where we host most of our performances. We also have 6 peripatetic teachers who come in every week to teach one to one private music lesson.
Extra-curricular activities form a large part of what we do and we currently run 2 musicals a year (one primary and one secondary), a range of choirs, small chamber style ensembles and pop bands. We have regular concerts, giving students the chance to perform in a range of performance spaces throughout the year. The highlight of our extra-curricular provision is the Junior elite choir, which was recently named 'UAE Junior choir of the year 2024' at the prestigious Choirfest competition.
The successful candidate will:
• Hold a relevant degree and teaching qualification
• Have experience of teaching Music whether that be in the UK or in an international setting
• Have a minimum two years teaching experience
• Have exceptional communication skills
