UAE is a key market for WPB and is being prioritised for investment and rapid growth. Mortgage is the largest portfolio.
Portfolio growth has been challenged due to high variable rates and severe market competition.

Downside risk exists from continued high interest environment potentially impacting to portfolio affordability and UAE real estate market price getting close to its peak.

Wealth Lending portfolio has been shrinking due to volatile market conditions, business needs to gain acquisition momentum along with process automation through system development, in progress.


Effective risk management demands continuous and extensive monitoring of market trend, regulatory changes, acquisition & portfolio quality, and corrective actions addressing of issues as any delay translate directly into financial losses for the organization.

This requires strong underwriting policy and process to make optimal and intelligent credit decisions within the acceptable regulatory & risk frameworks and effective portfolio performance management to ensure quality is not compromised for growth.


Duties & Responsibilities:


Support UAE Secured Credit Risk Head to lead, drive, support, and co-ordinate all credit risk strategies, portfolio management activities and strategic initiatives for UAE WPB mortgage and wealth lending portfolios.


  • Manage, oversight, and control the credit risk associated with the UAE WPB mortgage and wealth lending portfolios. Proactively manage the credit policy framework and ensure it's updated in line with economic and portfolio trends, regulations and global/regional policies and guidelines.
  • Develop product programs for WPB secured products with respective product manager and manage each product program to achieve profitability goals within the risk appetite.
  • Control impairment by managing WPB asset product quality to achieve required return. Oversight shortfalls/ margin calls monitoring and management for wealth lending products with product/ frontline teams.
  • Support the delivery of key projects relating to WPB mortgage and wealth lending products, including the local regulatory requirement and business development in the dynamic local regulatory environment. Ensure compliance with all internal, global, and regulatory requirement.
  • Drive delivery and implementation of retail risk systems and strategies related to mortgage portfolio. Leads, promotes, and executes analytical techniques to ensure optimal portfolio growth and performance in terms of credit risk.
  • Interprets portfolio management analytics to ensure credit risks are within plan for mortgage portfolio and in line with WPB RAS. Ensure the return profile for Mortgage is in line with agreed benchmarks and all growth strategies have appropriate consideration of CoRWA.
  • Support the developments of UAE WPB Business growth strategy for secured portfolios and assist the business to operate within the established bounds.
  • Lead coordination, communication between relevant CoE's, Regional Risk hub and regional customer base. Escalate emerging risk issues timely and ensure appropriate mitigating actions are devised and implemented swiftly engaging all key stakeholders.
  • Effectively manage vendors through appropriate due diligence, clear contracts, continuous monitoring and proactive risk mitigation strategies to address any of the potential challenges.
  • Use data visualization tools to present information in a clear and easily understandable format that can aid decision making through interpreting complex data.
  • Determine, gather, and utilize information relevant to real estate market such as, market trends, competitor performance, customer behavior and other economic indicators through industry reports, research firms, government publications, financial statement etc.
  • Ensures highest quality communication between all parties including Group WPB, Group and Regional WPB Risk team, Legal, Regulatory Compliance, Products, Operations, Frontline and Underwriting teams.
  • Continues to enhance and improve relationships and clear communication with all customers, globally.
  • Improve customer experience for external customers when dealing with HSBC, with a bias towards correct, timely, credit decisions.
  • Facilitates regular, timely personal assessments, development plans, objectives and up to date job description.
  • Participates in team learning, development, and best practice transfer.
  • Adheres strictly to all compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC's and regulatory standards, policies, and practices.
