cultivating acreative economy in Dubai and building a collaborative network of civic-cultural institutions through its renowned cultural district, AlserkalAvenue; providing advisory services to public and private sector entities;and, supporting public artist commissions, residencies, research grantsand educational programmes through its non-profit, Alserkal ArtsFoundation.

Alserkal has transformed the cultural landscape of Dubai and the UAEthrough the creation of a thriving, region-specific community of over 70contemporary art galleries, visual and performing arts organisations,designers and entrepreneur-led businesses at Alserkal Avenue, providingan essential platform for the development of creative industries in theregion.

Alserkal utilises its collective expertise in arts initiatives and culturalproduction, heritage creation, community building and engagement, aswell as urbanism and planning for creative industries, to guide public andprivate sector entities in developing sustainable and responsive businessmodels.

About Alserkal Arts FoundationThe Alserkal Arts Foundation supports socially engaged, multi-disciplinary practices and facilitates cross-cultural exchangethrough its four core initiatives: public art commissions, residencies,research grants and educational programmes.

Since our inception, Alserkal's non-profit initiatives have grown at anorganic pace, catering to homegrown audiences from the regionand beyond.

Over the past five years, we have set up a public artcommissions programme, working with 20 artists to date, supportingpractitioners whose projects are collaborative, participatory, andephemeral.

In 2017, Alserkal Residency was established for artisticexperimentation and discursive exchange.

By design, the Residencysupports cultural practitioners in the process of experimentationand research, while also giving them the opportunity to engage withour context and networks.

A research-driven platform that supportscultural practice, we help establish Dubai as a centre for culturalproduction in the region. To date, we have welcomed more than 23residents across various disciplines, each carefully chosen by ourSelection Committee.

Alserkal Arts Foundation was formally announced in March 2019,adding two additional pillars to its existing commitments:
alternativelearning programmes and research grants.

We offer culturalpractitioners–either based in Dubai, or whose practice criticallyinvestigates themes pertinent to the region's artistic community–opportunities for research, scholarship, and artistic production.

From the very beginning, partnerships have been an importantdimension of Alserkal's non-profit activities, forming collaborationswith the Samdani Art Foundation, Victoria & Albert Museum,Hayward Gallery and others.

Partnerships, co-commissions andcollaborative projects will continue to play a vital role within theFoundation's mission.

Essential Functions & ObjectivesThe Commissions Manager plays a pivotal role in managing the commissioning process for Dubai Public Art, an initiative in partnership with Dubai Culture and Arts Authority.

The Commissions Manager will work closely with selected artists, curators, and stakeholders to develop and implement art installations in selected locations across Dubai and deliver public programmes that reflect the rigour and aspirations of our organisation.

Working closely alongside Alserkal Arts Foundation Director, the Commissions Manager is expected to lead the Dubai Public Art's project, ensuring a smooth coordination between all stakeholders and delivering high quality art installations by the agreed launch dates.


Key Responsibilities:

Project Management:
Supervise all aspects of the commissioning process, including project planning, budgeting, scheduling, production and execution.
Main point of contact and liaison between curators, artists and all internal and external stakeholders.

Create and oversee detailed project timelines that take into account all aspects of design, production and installation,with adequate approval points incorporated, both internal and external.

Ensure all approvals are taken on time, particularly for client-based projects, thus ensuring project timeline is managed. This includes internal approvals, client approvals as well as any authority approvals that may be required.
Troubleshoot any issues that arise with the commissions.

Production and Install:


Work closely with the Projects and Facilities Manager and the Production team to research, secure and oversee all vendors required for the production and installation.

Liaise between curators/artists / Alserkal team and client team to ensure all plans and drawings are approved by engineering and meet safety standards.

Ensure the projects are produced and installed as per the final approved specifications.
Manage vendors to ensure they deliver their work as promised, on time and on budget.

Coordinate schedules (and local transportation, if needed) for the artists and curators while they are in Dubai / ensure all schedules are cleared with AA management.


Client Relations:
Coordinate directly with Dubai Culture and Arts Authority team members and ensure a smooth communication and liaison.
Maintain thorough records of all communication, including contracts, permits, and correspondence.

Compliance:
Draft and negotiate contracts with artists, contractors, and vendors, ensuring compliance with Alserkal legal team.
Manage all contracts related to the commission, which includes liaising with legal and finance departments.

Budget Management:


Ensure vendors are aware of and comply with financial and procurement termsOversee the procurement of all quotations for shipping and handling of artworks as required.

Keep track of budgets to ensure costs are managed. Budget reporting will be minimum bi-weekly.

Ensure all purchase orders are routed through the company ERP (SAGE) and follow the approved authority matrix and company procurement policy and process.

Manage workers and, when necessary, coordinate and track their cash payments from petty cash; ensure receipts are retained and work with the curator and Alserkal's finance team to reconcile petty cash at the end of each project.


Marketing and Public Programme:


Planning, development and liaison for inauguration activities and public programmes around each commission with Alserkal Arts Foundation team, to engage the community in the public art process.

Liaison between Alserkal marketing team, DCAA team and artists and curators for all marketing related content and approvalsEvaluation:
Conduct post-installation debriefs to assess successes and learnings.

Required skills + experience5+ years' experience in a fast-paced, high-volume environment in a related fieldEducated to a Bachelor's degree level or equivalent and holding relevant professional qualifications.

A proven track record in project management and the delivery of projects with budgets exceeding AED 500,000A demonstrable understanding of, and commitment to arts and culture within MENA and InternationallyExcellent organisational and administrative skillsExcellent budget-keeping and reporting skillsExcellent writing and communication skills, English necessary, Arabic and Urdu/Hindi desirableWork experience in the GCC or wider region desirableExcellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a teamAbility to develop positive, cooperative relationshipsSelf-motivated, with the ability to work within a constantly changing environmentPosition type and expected hours of workThis is a full-time position.

Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, from 10am to 6pm. Saturdays and overtime might be required during intense periods and/or during special projects and events.
