We are currently seeking an ambitious individual to join our Regulatory Compliance team, as Regional Head of Regulatory Compliance GB and CMB MENAT working together with colleagues to define, manage and achieve divisional business targets.


The Risk and Compliance function is a Second line of defence (LOD) function, responsible for reviewing and challenging the activities of the Group's businesses (also referred to as "the First LOD") to ensure that they effectively manage as "Risk Owners" the risks inherent in or arising from the conduct of their activities and for which they are responsible.

The Second LOD consists of 'Risk Stewards' who are independent of the commercial risk-taking activities undertaken by the First LOD.

The Risk and Compliance function is a Risk Steward for a number of non-financial risks in accordance with HSBC Group's risk framework.


The MENAT Head of Regulatory Compliance, GB and CMB is the senior Risk Steward responsible for independently challenging GB and CMB businesses, which for the purpose of this role includes GTRF and GPS, to appropriately manage the regulatory compliance risks that they face.

The role is a key risk management role with a broad remit and responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  • Providing effective oversight of the operational effectiveness of critical policies and systems covering Regulatory Compliance with a view to ensuring that MENAT GB and CMB exposure to regulatory compliance and related reputational risk is managed appropriately, in a commercially sensitive, practical and cost effective manner.
  • Acting as a trusted advisor and point of challenge to the MENAT GB and CMB executive stakeholders, as a leader within the Risk and Compliance function.
  • The articulation of Regional GB and CMB risk appetite and policies with respect to Regulatory Compliance in MENAT.
  • Strengthening the Region's knowledge of regulatory risk and compliance management by incorporating risk and compliance considerations in all activities undertaken to protect and enable the business' activities through a robust risk management understanding.
  • Working with MENAT GB and CMB Risk & Compliance teams to provide oversight of the risk management framework to enhance, standardise and integrate the various risk activities including the implementation of strategic projects and systems.
  • Develop, monitor and communicate MENAT GB and CMB Risk & Compliance strategy, policies and appetite in relation to Regulatory Compliance throughout the lines of business, leading strategic direction for setting industry standards for Risk and Compliance, its challenges, and opportunities to ensure that the Region satisfies the requirements of stakeholders.
  • To serve as the senior regulatory compliance risk steward for MENAT GB and CMB in governance, including sitting as a member of the regional CMB and GBM Regional Oversight Committees as well as regional CMB and GBM Reputational Risk and Client Selection Committees, amongst others, to report on progress and issues in relation to the operational effectiveness of HSBC's policies, processes, systems and controls in countering Regulatory Compliance risk. The existing committees may change depending on the Business needs and Operational priorities.
  • To stay at the forefront of key regulatory changes, particularly where relevant to MENAT GB and CMB, to ensure proactive communication with the business and contribute to appropriate policy and framework changes.
Requirements

To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • First class leadership, communication and influencing skills, with experience of dealing with executives at all levels including the capacity to articulate the case for risk management and policy in the language of business.
  • Ability to develop practical, costeffective solutions to what are often complex global issues.
  • Ability to lead change, coordinating with other teams globally.
  • Ability to interpret and analyse a large volume of information and / or data and provide succinct summary for senior management.
  • Ability to prioritise conflicting demands and problem solve in a dynamic environment.
  • Bachelor's degree is essential.
