Patient Relations Officer

- Participates in commissioningassigned and associatedareas.
Policy
- Supportthe development of and gain a sound knowledge of policies andstandards of the MD's job function to provide information,ideas and support on matters of concern to theMD.
- Coordinate communication between patients,family members, medical staff, administrative staff, or regulatoryagencies.
- Interview patients or theirrepresentatives to identify problems relating tocare.
- Maintain knowledge of community servicesand resources available to patients.
- Referpatients to appropriate health care services orresources.
- Investigate and direct patientinquiries or complaints to appropriate medical staff members andfollow up to ensure satisfactoryresolution.
- Explain policies, procedures, orservices to patients using medical or administrativeknowledge.
- Read current literature, talk withcolleagues, continue education, or participate in professionalorganizations or conferences to keep abreast of developments in thefield.
- Collect and report data on topics suchas patient encounters and inter-institutional problems, makingrecommendations for change whenappropriate.
- Develop and distributenewsletters, brochures, or other printed materials to shareinformation with patients or medicalstaff.
- Provide consultation or training tovolunteers or staff on topics such as guest relations,patients' rights, and medicalissues.
- Ensures adequate and efficient cover ofstaff, allocates and manages leaves within thedepartment
- Manages staff in an effective mannerand ensures a supportive environment for a teammembers
- Works closely with medical, nursing andother appropriate clinical, administrative and other staff andensures the role and functions of the service are both understoodeasily accessible.
- Identify and share research,recommendations, or other information regarding legal liabilities,risk management, or quality of care.
