Catalyst is a startup technology accelerator, co-founded by bp and Masdar City and located in the Masdar City (Abu Dhabi, UAE). With a mission to nurture a dynamic startup ecosystem centered around sustainability, Catalyst offers growth support to startups leveraging technology for environmental sustainability.Job Purpose:The Managing Director at The Catalyst will play a pivotal role in driving the organization's mission of fostering innovation in climate technology. This position requires a strategic leader with a deep understanding of the climate-tech landscape, coupled with exceptional management and investment skills. The Managing Director will oversee all aspects of the accelerator and incubator programs, from deal sourcing to exit strategies, while ensuring alignment with the organization's objectives and values.Responsibilities:Proactively identify and cultivate relationships with potential climate-tech startups, leveraging industry networks and market research to source high-potential candidates for the accelerator and incubator programs.Develop and implement rigorous investment evaluation processes, including thorough financial analysis, market assessment, and due diligence to inform investment decisions.Collaborate with the investment team to assess the viability and strategic fit of potential investments, ensuring alignment with The Catalyst's mission and investment criteria.Lead external fundraising efforts, including securing commitments from institutional investors, corporate partners, and government agencies to support The Catalyst's programs and initiatives.Oversee comprehensive due diligence processes for potential portfolio companies, assessing technical feasibility, market potential, team capabilities, and scalability to mitigate investment risks.Provide strategic guidance and support to portfolio companies throughout their lifecycle, including business development, operational efficiency, and access to additional funding opportunities.Monitor and evaluate portfolio performance, identifying areas for growth and implementing strategies to maximize value creation.Implement best practices for shareholder communication, reporting, and governance to ensure transparency and accountability to stakeholders.Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including investors, entrepreneurs, corporate partners, government agencies, and industry experts to support The Catalyst's objectives and enhance its reputation within the climate-tech ecosystem.Develop and execute exit strategies for portfolio investments or strategic divestitures to maximize returns for investors and achieve successful outcomes for portfolio companies.Adhere to any applicable Catalyst information security policies and procedures and identify and report security incidents and suspected weaknesses to the appropriate point(s) of contact.Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in business, finance, engineering, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.Preferred Experience:Proven track record of successful venture capital or private equity investment experience, preferably in the climate technology sector. Previous role from top tier accelerators or VCs.Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve strategic objectives.Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for identifying investment opportunities and assessing risk.Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and negotiate effectively with diverse stakeholders.Deep knowledge of climate technology trends, market dynamics, and regulatory landscape.Commitment to environmental sustainability and passion for driving positive impact through innovation and entrepreneurship.
