Lummus Consultants is looking for a Business Development Director to grow the company into the area of technical and management consulting in the energy industry – offshore and onshore oil & gas, LNG, pipelines, power generation and transmission, as well as refining and petrochemicals. This role will be expected to help grow the consulting practice area in the fields of oil& Gas, power delivery and decarbonization and will primarily entail growing relationships with the financial community and project developers. Assignments require a high level of experience and ability to focus quickly on important issues.
The individual we are seeking must be comfortable and confident to work in a seller/doer organization structure.
Position:
The Business Development Director will be expected to grow and lead a new consulting practice area in the fields of Oil & Gas, power delivery and decarbonization. The expectation is to achieve additional revenues of at least $3 million (with a gross margin between 50-60%, and net income of 20-25% within 3 years. The group VP and the Leadership Team should have contacts and skills to help him achieve this goal. An international focus is expected. Areas of skill and knowledge should include knowledge of project financing, capex benchmarking analysis, O&M practices and costs, M&A support, due diligence and strategy development. The candidate will be expected to lead and participate in advisory assignments, conduct business development, and manage his/her practice business area and interface with Lummus Consultants' senior management. Additional business areas may be identified based upon the candidate's personal history and strengths and interests.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Grow Lummus Consultants' business – in cooperation with the existing business heads. His growth strategy should be heavily focused on technical solutions but with a broad business perspective beyond traditional due diligence assignments.
- Develop a business plan to capitalize on existing talents and resources within Lummus Consultants and Lummus Technology; the candidate's strengths; and market opportunities.
- Grow name recognition of Lummus Consultants in all Energy industry segments (with assistance from the Lummus Communication team and other internal resources).
- Carry out business development, marketing, and proposal preparation efforts and lead Key Account Management teams efforts.
- Lead or participate in consulting project work.
- Prepare clear and concise written reports on assignments, develop conclusions and present clear and precise written and verbal results to clients.
- Expand the Lummus Consulting practice area (globally), consistent with the business plan – identify gaps in skills and potential recruits.
- Achieve objectives with minimal oversight.
- Management of the P&L forecast by close collaboration with his supervisor and finance.
- Report to Senior Director of Lummus Consultants in Dubai office.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Strong leadership abilities and excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong communicator with excellent written and oral communication skills
- Must have a high degree of self-motivation and energy
- Must have proven ability to manage business forecasting, short and long term projection
- Capability of earning respect from the team and capable of influencing others without authority
- Excellent professional image/presentation
- Knowledge of many cultures/international style
- Strong commercial savvy and negotiating skills
- Interest in being knowledgeable in all services offerings in Lummus Consultants portfolio
- Ability to work well with finance partners.
- Must have a strong balance of technical and commercial capabilities.
Basic Qualifications:
- A degree-educated Engineer; MBA is a plus but not required.
- The candidate should have at least 20 years relevant professional experience.
- Prior experience with an owner/operator or major engineering company and/or consultancy.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to write clear and concise reports in English.
- The candidate should have strong interpersonal skills and be comfortable conversing with clients and senior management
- Demonstrated management and project management skills
Office Location and Travel:
- Dubai office. Relocation is not being offered.
- Job-related travel (business trips usually requiring less than a two-week duration; often just one or two days) which includes international travel to financial institutions in London, is an important part of the work. Time away from the office may average 10 to 30 percent of work hours.
