Relationship Manager, Commercial Banking

Job Purpose
The Relationship Manager will be responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of Commercial Banking clients (SMEs and mid-sized corporates). The role requires proactive client engagement, acquisition of new-to-bank customers, deepening existing relationships, and delivering comprehensive financial solutions including lending, deposits, trade finance, and cash management products. The RM will ensure adherence to compliance, credit, and risk management guidelines while achieving defined business targets
Principal Accountabilities
Business Development & Sales Growth
- Client Acquisition & Portfolio Management
- Acquire and develop new-to-bank commercial clients through targeted business development.
- Manage an assigned portfolio of upper - SME and mid-sized corporate clients across multiple sectors.
- Act as the primary point of contact for all client banking needs, ensuring superior relationship management.
- Business Growth & Revenue Generation
- Achieve financial targets across assets, liabilities, trade, FX, and fee-based income.
- Cross-sell banking products such as working capital finance, term loans, trade services, treasury solutions, and digital channels.
- Monitor and optimize portfolio profitability.
Risk & Compliance
- Ensure strict adherence to bank's credit policies, KYC/AML guidelines, and regulatory frameworks.
- Conduct regular portfolio reviews to assess credit quality and identify early warning signals.
- Maintain a balanced risk-adjusted growth strategy.
- Comply with internal audits requirements in line with the policy guidelines to ensure high standards of uniformity and consistency across the bank
Customer & Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationship with existing and new clients by making regular client visits
- Deliver best-in-class client service, ensuring quick turnaround on credit proposals and operational requests.
- Understand client business models and provide tailored financial solutions.
- Market & Competitor Insights
- Engage with product, credit, and operations teams to ensure smooth delivery of banking services
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent service delivery
- Address customer queries, concerns and complaints in a timely manner
- Stay updated on UAE market dynamics, industry trends, and competitor offerings
- Identify opportunities to position the bank as a trusted partner in clients' growth journey.
Performance Management
- Set key performance indicators (KPIs) and ensure the team achieves business targets.
- Foster a culture of innovation, excellence, and customer-centricity within the liabilities team.
- Conduct Account planning with product partners for cross sell/ upsell opportunities to ensure multi product relationship and greater wallet share.
Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field (MBA, CFA/CA/ACCA preferred).
- 10+ years' experience in Corporate/ Commercial banking with 5 years of exposure to commercial banking / Mid Corporate in the UAE.
- Strong client acquisition and negotiation skills
- Analytical mindset with ability to assess financial statements and creditworthiness
- Ability to build long-term client relationships based on trust and value creation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self-driven, target-oriented, and collaborative
- Proficiency in MS Office and banking systems/digital channels
