MAIN PURPOSE OF JOBTo perform routine laboratory tests in accordance with professional and regulatory standards and guidelines
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREASPerform routine tests according to professional standards and guidelines
Monitor sample management, including sorting and allocation based on testing requirements
Process clinical chemistry, immunology and serology, autoimmune, haematology, coagulation, blood transfusion and clinical microscopy tests and related laboratory functions
Conducts analysis of body fluids, blood specimens, urine and spinal fluid
Result analysis and verification of accuracy of findings
Contribute to relevant quality improvement initiatives aimed at mitigating risks, compliance governance and increased patient safety
Actively contribute and guide, where needed, relevant training and health and safety initiatives
Operate, calibrate, and monitor effective functioning of standard laboratory equipment that includes analysers and maintenance of temperature logs
REQUIRED EDUCATIONA relevant Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory sciences or a related field
REQUIRED EXPERIENCEAt least 3-5 years' full time experience as a medical laboratory technologist in clinical chemistry
REQUIRED JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE- Correct maintenance of instrumentation according to manufacturer's guidelines
- Developing standard operating procedures
- Computer Literacy (Microsoft Office)
- Knowledge of real time multiplex PCR and close molecular systems
- Knowledgeable in laboratory equipment and testing to perform quality control checks and instrumentation troubleshooting
- Laboratory information systems and reporting
