Serves as resource person in infection-related problems, detects evidence of cross infection and assists in the development of improved infection control.
- Helps monitor staff compliance with infection control practices through audit.
- Identifies problems and risks related to infection control and consults with Quality and Nurse managers for resolutions.
- Documents all assessments, interventions and other pertinent information in the patient's health care record in a timely and ongoing manner.
- Demonstrates effective communication and collaboration skills when interacting with patients/families, other healthcare team members and staff of other departments.
- Participate in infection prevent and control education of all employees during orientation and annually thereafter.
- Assists in the staff, patient/relatives, and visitors education concerning various aspects in infection control and prevention.
- Assists in surveillance of all patients in assigned units to identify health care-associated infections based on established guidelines and approved definitions and criteria.
- Works with all care team members in activities designed for the improvement of patient care outcomes.
- Responsible for coordinating the infection control program which includes surveillance; analysis of data; developing reports, policies and procedure.
- Will be required to establish and implement infection control alongside the departmental directors, throughout the facility.
- Assists in the documentation of diseases required reporting to Ministry of Health. Assists in initiating precautions and advises concerning precautions and isolation measures applied on any transmissible diseases within the hospital.
- Assists in epidemiological investigation during outbreaks / clusters of infections /exposure incidents across the hospital and helps initiate control measures in collaboration with Quality Manager and concerned personnel and/or units.
- Complies with and participates in Quality Management Processes and activities.
- Assists in the review of environmental cleanliness in areas assigned including cleaning procedures, schedules, and agents used.
