**Job Detail**

We are looking to appoint an Assistant Head Pastoral in Secondary.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Senior Leadership Team and make the difference in the lives of students at South View School.

A strongly pastoral, kindness based professional mindset is a necessity for a school that enjoys positive and happy relationships with parents and other stakeholders.

The Assistant Head Pastoral is responsible for the development, delivery, and leadership of the pastoral care system in the Secondary School. Key responsibilities include:

- Develop and promote a caring, understanding, and supportive pastoral care framework for all students
- Through this, ensure that an effective learning environment, characterised by high standards of achievement and behaviour is existent in the secondary school.
- Promote an ethos of inclusion for all students.
- Be the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for the Secondary School working closely with the whole school DSL to ensure optimum Safeguarding and Child Protection.
- Line manage the Secondary School Heads of Year.
- Ensure that relevant policies are developed, refined and implemented and that parents are fully involved and informed as required.
- Ensure the highest standards of dress, conduct and work ethic are demonstrated by all students.
- Be responsible for organising assemblies.
- Develop a team of parent reps whereby each year has a parent team of 1 rep per form class who acts as a link between the wider parent body and the school.
- Be visible and lead by example.
- Support the Head of Secondary School in developing positive working relationships with and between all staff as well as provide and sustain positive motivation.
- Schedule regular weekly meetings in respect of pastoral matters.
- Ensure the pastoral curriculum is appropriate to the needs of the student cohort and delivered to a high standard.
- Provide a programme of visiting speakers for different age groups in respect of pastoral focus areas.
- Ensure that staff are fully up to date in respect of safeguarding, child protection matters and procedures.
- Monitor and deal with safeguarding and child protection matters.
- Ensure a programme of targeted initiatives are run within the school throughout the year focussing on aspects such as bullying, smoking, relationships, kindness, mental health.
