ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Desired candidate profile

1. Teaching and Instruction

  • Course Development and Instruction: Designing, delivering, and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in architectural engineering. Topics may include structural systems in buildings, building materials, environmental systems (HVAC, lighting, plumbing), building energy modeling, construction methods, sustainability in architecture, and project management.
  • Lecturing and Class Management: Conducting lectures, seminars, and labs for students. Engaging students in both theoretical knowledge and hands-on applications through projects and case studies.
  • Laboratory Supervision: Overseeing laboratory courses where students apply engineering principles to real-world building problems. This may include materials testing, building energy modeling, and system simulations.
  • Course Content Update: Continuously updating the course content to reflect new developments in architectural engineering technologies, materials, sustainability practices, and building codes.
  • Graduate and Doctoral Supervision: Supervising graduate and Ph.D. students in their research projects, theses, and dissertations. Guiding students in developing their independent research and professional practices in architectural engineering.

2. Research and Scholarly Activity

  • Conducting Research: Engaging in cutting-edge research in various aspects of architectural engineering, such as structural design, sustainable building practices, energy-efficient systems, building materials, construction technologies, or smart buildings.
  • Research Collaboration: Collaborating with faculty members, industry experts, and researchers in architecture, civil engineering, urban planning, and related fields to develop interdisciplinary solutions to complex architectural engineering problems.
  • Publishing Research: Publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and industry reports. Sharing innovative findings that advance the knowledge base in architectural engineering.
  • Securing Research Grants: Writing grant proposals to secure funding for research projects from government agencies, private organizations, and industry partners. Ensuring that the research contributes both to academic knowledge and real-world applications.
  • Conference Participation: Presenting research at national and international conferences, engaging with the broader academic and professional community to exchange ideas and feedback on ongoing research.

3. Professional Development and Industry Collaboration

  • Industry Engagement: Developing partnerships with architectural firms, construction companies, and government agencies to ensure that the curriculum remains relevant to industry needs and that students have opportunities for internships, co-ops, and real-world projects.
  • Consulting: Some Associate Professors in Architectural Engineering engage in consulting work, offering expertise on building design, energy efficiency, sustainable construction, or structural systems to the industry or government entities.
  • Professional Development: Staying current with the latest developments in the field of architectural engineering through continuous learning, attending workshops, certifications, and industry events.

4. Service to the Institution and Academic Community

  • Committee Work: Serving on various academic and administrative committees within the department or university. This can include curriculum development committees, accreditation committees, and faculty hiring committees.
