Roles and responsibilities
  • Responsible for obtaining approvals for materials submittal in all activities.
  • Responsible for preparing Asphalt mix designs of various types i.e. Base, Binder and wearing course, obtaining approvals from consultant\Engineers and ensuring the same to be produced from Asphalt plant.
  • Responsible for preparation of various concrete mix designs and conducted plant trials to ensuring the quality of concrete mix.
  • Responsible for interaction with consultants and client for day-to-day activities that take place at site regarding workmanship of the product quality standard maintain for the work.
  • Control of Non-Confirming product at site and inspection of all incoming materials to the site.
  • Ensuring maintenance of all Quality management documents and Record Viz plans, Inspection, test record and chick list.
  • developing, modifying, testing, and evaluating materials
  • providing technical advice about the suitability of materials diagnosing faults
  • advising on, planning, and organising inspections, maintenance, and repairs
  • overseeing operational quality control processes
  • liaising with suppliers, customers, and manufacturing/development staff
  • supervising technical staff
  • Conduct and ensure in-depth Fracture Analysis and Technical Reports.
  • Maintain cycle time objective within responsibility areas.
  • Address materials and process concerns from suppliers, manufacturing, and customers.
  • Offer material information and data to Engineering.
  • Update material logs.
  • Test at external sources.
  • Interpret results, write reports, and communicate with client representative engineers.
  • Analyse product failure data and laboratory test results in order to determine causes of problems and develop solutions.
  • Conduct or supervise tests on raw materials or finished products to ensure their quality.
  • Design and direct the testing and/or control of processing procedures.
  • Determine appropriate methods for construction of works.
  • Monitor material performance and evaluate material deterioration.
  • Plan and implement laboratory operations for the purpose of developing material testing procedures that meet project specification, and performance standards.
  • Review material submittals and make recommendations for material selection based on specification objectives, such as strength, weight, heat resistance, electrical conductivity, and cost.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.

Aware of Abu Dhabi Standards and Regulations

Aware of Roads, Structures, and Civil Infrastructure Works

10 years experience overall 5 years experience in the UAE PREFERRED

Desired candidate profile

1. Material Science Expertise

  • Understanding of Materials Properties: Deep knowledge of the physical, chemical, mechanical, and thermal properties of materials. This includes properties like strength, elasticity, conductivity, corrosion resistance, and thermal expansion.
  • Material Selection: Expertise in selecting the right materials for specific applications based on their properties, performance requirements, and environmental considerations (e.g., cost, durability, weight).
  • Materials Testing: Knowledge of materials testing methods (e.g., tensile testing, hardness testing, impact testing) and the ability to interpret test results to understand how materials will perform in real-world conditions.
  • Failure Analysis: The ability to perform failure analysis, identifying why materials fail under stress or extreme conditions, and recommending improvements to avoid such failures in the future.

2. Manufacturing and Processing Techniques

  • Materials Processing: Understanding of different manufacturing processes like casting, welding, extrusion, molding, and additive manufacturing (3D printing) and how they affect the properties of materials.
  • Fabrication and Forming: Expertise in processes for shaping materials, such as machining, stamping, and forging, and understanding how these processes affect the material properties.
  • Nanotechnology: Familiarity with the development and use of nanomaterials and nanotechnology in engineering, which can involve materials with enhanced properties at the atomic or molecular level.

3. Design and Engineering Skills

  • CAD Software: Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software for creating models, simulations, and prototypes of products made from specific materials. Tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or CATIA may be used.
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA): Knowledge of FEA tools to simulate and predict how materials will behave under various conditions (stress, heat, etc.) and optimize designs.
  • Product Development: Ability to work with design teams to develop new products and prototypes, considering material properties to ensure optimal performance and manufacturability.
  • Optimization: Optimizing the choice of materials and design for performance, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability.

4. Knowledge of Material Types

  • Metals and Alloys: Understanding of ferrous (steel, iron) and non-ferrous (aluminum, copper, titanium) materials, their alloying processes, and the types of applications they are best suited for.
  • Polymers and Plastics: Expertise in the behavior of polymers and plastics, including thermosetting, thermoplastic, and elastomer materials, and their applications in a wide variety of industries.
  • Ceramics and Glasses: Knowledge of ceramic materials, including their strength, brittleness, thermal conductivity, and use in high-temperature applications like aerospace or electronics.
  • Composites: Familiarity with composite materials (e.g., carbon fiber, fiberglass), which are made from two or more distinct materials, and understanding how they combine to create superior properties (strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, etc.).
