Roles &Responsibilities

The role of the safety officeris to provide safety awareness and implementation of safetystandards in controlled zones.

Act as safetyofficer for selected location

Stop workAuthority, and act for safetyviolations.

Inspection of permit to work forvalidity

Inspect Hot work areas forcompliance

Inform HSE department of safety issues/ Violation

Check PPE ofEPC

Check tool and equipment for validinspections report all safety concerns to HSEdepartment

  • ConductingSafety Inspections : Regularly inspecting theworkplace to identify hazards or unsafe conditions, such as faultyequipment or slipperyfloors.
  • SafetyTraining : Organizing and delivering safety trainingprograms to staff, ensuring everyone understands how to minimizerisks in the workplace.
  • IncidentInvestigation : Investigating accidents ornear-misses, identifying root causes, and creating reports toprevent futureincidents.
  • Compliance withRegulations : Ensuring the workplace is in compliancewith local, state, and federal safety laws and regulations (e.g.,OSHA standards).
  • RiskAssessment : Conducting assessments of potentialworkplace hazards, like chemicals, machinery, or environmentalfactors, and recommending mitigationstrategies.
  • Developing SafetyPolicies : Creating and updating workplace safetyprocedures and emergency responseplans.
  • SafetyAudits : Regular audits of safety protocols,equipment, and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance andimprovement.
  • Reporting andDocumentation : Maintaining records of safetyinspections, training sessions, and any incidents or accidents thatoccur.
  • EmergencyPreparedness : Ensuring emergency equipment (e.g.,fire extinguishers, first-aid kits) is readily available and inworking order. Planning and conducting emergency drills, like fireevacuations.
Desired candidate profile
  1. Knowledge of SafetyRegulations : Familiarity with safety regulationslike OSHA guidelines and the ability to interpretthem.
  2. Attention toDetail : Ability to spot potential hazards andaddress them before they lead toaccidents.
  3. Communication :Ability to clearly explain safety rules to employees, report issuesto management, and collaborate with differentteams.
  4. ProblemSolving : Quickly identifying safety issues andcoming up with solutions to preventaccidents.
  5. Training andLeadership : Leading by example and effectivelytraining others to follow safetyprotocols.
  6. AnalyticalSkills : Reviewing accidents and data to identifypatterns or areas forimprovement.
  7. FirstAid/CPR : Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR incase ofemergencies.

Certifications:

Dependingon the industry, Safety Officers may need specific certificationsto perform their roles effectively, suchas:

  • OSHACertification : Occupational Safety and HealthAdministrationcertification.
  • NEBOSH :National Examination Board in Occupational Safety andHealth.
