Roles and responsibilities
  • Communicates store targetsto the team and drives sales to achieve financialobjectives
  • Maintains proper loss preventionstandards and ensures compliance with cash handling, fraud andtheft of products
  • Oversees and monitors allpoint of sales activities in the store which includes - salestransactions, tracking customer orders and payments, registeringsale and maintaining inventory updates, providing service, handlingreturns and refunds, gathering consumer data forfeedback' etc.
  • Oversees cashtransaction entry and management (petty cash, point of sales (POS)cash elements, change floats)
  • Regularly auditsown store administration and resolves any issues; assists incarrying out annual stock counts and spotchecks
  • Monitors and handles customer complaintsand take corrective action in line with policy; resolves customercomplaints and responds to feedback in a timely and professionalmanner
  • Tracks and evaluates brand salesperformance, research market trends and competitor tradingactivities to identify critical business factors and propose actionplans to increase sales andprofitability
  • Monitors and analyzes salesreports and provides insights to maximize stock potential; reportson the performance of new and corecollections
  • Maintains window and in-storedisplays to a high standard in line with merchandisingguidelines
  • Oversees and monitors the inventorymanagement in the store ( stock availability, order management,back store management, stock movement withinstore)
  • Ensures accurate stock merchandise andmanagement (stock ageing , stock loss, space management) within thestore
  • Coordinates with facilities department onrepairs or replacements of furniture or equipment; supports companymaintenance standards/programs to optimize assetlife
  • Maintains staffing levels consistent withoperational needs to ensure exceptional customer service; preparesschedules and ensures adequate shiftcoverage
  • Ensures seasonal peaks, importantpromotional events are taken account of when preparing forecastsand staff rosters
  • Ensures that the team isadequately trained in inventory management techniques such asin-bound movement of goods, receiving, stocking, restocking,transfers and managing inventorydiscrepancies

1.Store Layout andDesign

  • FloorPlan : The store's floor plan is designedto optimize customer flow, product visibility, and ease of accessto different areas, such as aisles, cash registers, and fittingrooms.
  • ProductPlacement : Strategic placement of products toencourage impulse buying, such as placing high-margin items at eyelevel or near checkoutareas.
  • Ambiance :Lighting, color schemes, signage, and music that create an invitingatmosphere and enhance the shoppingexperience.

2. ProductOffering

  • Merchandising :The range of products offered, their quality, pricing, and how theyare presented in the store. Retailers may choose to specialize inspecific categories (e.g., clothing, electronics, food) or offer avariety of products.
  • InventoryManagement : Ensuring that products are well-stockedand available for customers, avoiding both overstock and stockouts.This involves monitoring sales trends and demandpatterns.
  • PricingStrategy : Setting competitive and profitable pricesthat attract customers while ensuring the store'sfinancial sustainability. This could involve discounts, bundling,or loyalty programs.

3.CustomerService

  • SalesAssistance : Employees who help customers findproducts, offer recommendations, and answer any questions relatedto items or storepolicies.
  • Returns andExchanges : A clear and fair policy on returning orexchanging goods, which is crucial for customersatisfaction.
  • After-SalesSupport : Providing ongoing assistance to customerspost-purchase, such as providing warranties, maintenance, ortroubleshooting.

4.Sales andMarketing

  • Promotionsand Discounts : Retailers often run sales, clearanceevents, or offer limited-time promotions to attract customers andincrease sales volume.
  • LoyaltyPrograms : Implementing loyalty schemes, wherecustomers can earn rewards or discounts based on theirpurchases.
  • Advertising andOutreach : Using digital marketing, social media,email newsletters, and traditional advertising (e.g., flyers, TV)to reach potential customers and boost brandawareness.
  • SeasonalCampaigns : Aligning product offerings and promotionswith holidays, events, or seasonal demand to maximizesales.

5. TechnologyIntegration

  • Point-of-Sale(POS) Systems : Electronic systems that handletransactions, track sales, and inventory, and generate reports forbusiness analysis.
  • E-commerceIntegration : Many brick-and-mortar retail storesoperate alongside online stores, allowing customers to shop onlineand choose delivery or in-storepickup.
  • Self-Checkout :Automated checkout systems where customers scan their items and paywithout needing assistance from acashier.
  • MobilePayments : Accepting payments through apps like ApplePay, Google Wallet, or QR code-based systems for enhancedconvenience.
