Roles and responsibilities

JobSummary:

Lead, direct control andadministrate skilled workers engaged in Welding activities onboardand workshop.

TechnicalCompetencies:

  • Preplanningof jobs and providing feedback to Foreman Sr. / Supervisor onsequence of job, manpower, equipmentrequirement.
  • Co-ordination with ProjectManager, Inspectors, Other trades and within Dept. for smoothexecution of job.
  • Ensure that the consumablehandling procedure are strictly followed
  • Ensurethat the Welding equipment being used are validated andtested
  • Ensure that the WPS for particular workscopes are displayed and the welders are aware of the requirementsand comply with the same.
  • Ensure that allwelders are following WT requirements
  • Ensurethat all responsibilities of welding supervision as mentioned inDDWD ISO manual annex 1 arefollowed.
  • Ensure effective and productive useof allocated manpower, consumables and materials thereby achievingallocated time scale to meet the settarget.
  • Ensuring all work is performedaccording to the required standards and within the allocated timeframe.
  • Liaise with other discipline foremen /supervision to ensure the optimum utilization of availableresources, with the overall objective of successful completion ofthe project.
  • Distribute the welders accordingto their experience and monitor the performances through regular inprocess inspections.
  • Perform internalinspections to ensure that the work is performed as per the setstandards prior to offering for QC / Clientinspections.
  • Report work progress, plannedstart / end dates against Work Order and turnover for next shift asrequired by the Supervisor.
  • Train, motivate,appraise and provide feedback on training requirement to uplift theskill of subordinates
  • Exercise discipline atthe work site to prevent absenteeism, unsafe work practices andidleness.
  • Proactive participation inidentifying errors Onboard / Work Shop and effective reportingthrough NCIR system.
  • Thorough knowledge invarious types steel works, steel structures and welding procedurespecifications.
  • Knowledge and Experience inship repair and new buildingyard.

Experience:

Familiarizedwith welding work having at least 3 of experience as Foreman orLeadposition.

Education:

Industrialtraining Certificate or equivalent.

2 years tradeapprentice course.

Desired candidate profile

  • Supervision and TeamManagement :

    • Superviseand lead a team of welders, ensuring that tasks are completedaccurately and efficiently.
    • Assign daily tasksand monitor progress to ensure deadlines are met and qualitystandards are maintained.
    • Provide guidance andtraining to welding staff, ensuring they are skilled in the latesttechniques, tools, and safetypractices.
    • Evaluate and report on theperformance of team members and assist in the development of theirskills.

  • WeldingProcessManagement :

    • Overseewelding operations, including tasks such as MIG, TIG, Stickwelding, and flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), depending on theproject needs.
    • Ensure that the appropriatewelding procedures, materials, and techniques are used for eachtask.
    • Inspect welding equipment to ensure it isin good working condition and address any issues or maintenanceneeds.
    • Set up and prepare materials, includingproper alignment, securing, and positioning of metals or componentsforwelding.

  • QualityControl andInspection :

    • Ensure thatall welds meet the required quality standards and specifications,including visual inspections and non-destructive testing (e.g.,X-ray, ultrasonic).
    • Review welds for strength,durability, and precision, and identify any flaws or defects thatmay require rework.
    • Monitor welding proceduresand techniques to ensure they comply with project specifications,codes, and standards.
    • Maintain records ofinspections, quality control reports, and any discrepancies foundduring the weldingprocess.

  • Safetyand Compliance :

    • Enforcestrict adherence to safety regulations, including the use ofpersonal protective equipment (PPE), ventilation systems, and fireprevention measures.
    • Conduct regular safetybriefings and training sessions to ensure welders are aware of thelatest safety practices and hazardcontrols.
    • Monitor the work environment forsafety hazards and ensure that all activities comply with local andnational safety regulations, such as OSHA (Occupational Safety andHealth Administration).
    • Address and resolvesafety concerns or accidents quickly and ensure proper reportingandfollow-up.

  • ProjectCoordination andPlanning :

    • Work closelywith project managers, engineers, and contractors to ensure thatwelding tasks are coordinated with other construction orfabrication activities.
    • Assist in developingproject timelines and schedules, ensuring that welding work iscompleted on time and withinbudget.
    • Communicate with stakeholders toprovide updates on progress, delays, or any issues that may ariseduring the weldingprocess.
