The Sultanate of Oman has entered intoa very strict Health and Safety policy on sites it is therefore oneof the inspectors duties to be fully aware of safety issues onsites. WS AtkinsRalis runs training for all staff regarding healthand safety issues on sites.

The inspectors are tohave trained eyes for all trades to be able to advise theircolleagues inspectors on the same site areas of nonacceptable workto be verified by the relevant tradeinspectors.

Responsibilities

GeneralDuties

  • The inspectorsshall ensure that the project documentation list is received andthat he is made aware of means of locating documentation eitherhard copy or in electronicformats.

Thedocumentation list is toinclude:

  • DrawingsSpecification details Fire Policy drawings Drawing Register ShopDrawing Material Submittal Samples Method Statements. Any otherdocumentation that is relevant to theproject.
  • Inspectors shall ensure that correctnumber of inspections are offered by the contractors i.e. ensurethat the number is adequate to check that works are inspected atappropriate stages to ensure good quality and if necessary remedialwork instructed. This is to be done in the form of NCR Letter orMinutes of Meeting recording or any other form being used on theproject.
  • During the inspection of the works theinspectors are to familiarise themselves with other work in thearea and coordinate with other inspectors. If there are anyparticular requirements to keep into consideration either trademust keep themselves informed and update.
  • It isthe inspector duties to carry out walk around inspections on thesites on a daily basis and inform the RE of any poor workmanship orsafety issue.
  • The application of Preinspectionswill assist the contractor in assuring that a good quality projectis delivered without having to rework areas which may not beaccepted at the time of contractors formal inspection request. Thisshould become a cost or saving exercise for all partiesinvolved.
  • The inspectors prior to inspectingareas of work are to familiarise themselves with the MaterialApproval Sheets (MAS) and to ensure that the correct Material hasbeen employed and especially if there are particular manufacturersmethod of applications (Manufacturer Method Statements) sample ofmaterials are also to be requested.
  • Tofacilitate the standards of installation the inspectors shouldrequest sample installation/work to be taken as an example and beshown to all tradesmen to set standards.
  • If thematerials are subject to site testing ensure that the test arecarried out in the presence of the inspectors and test sheets aresubmitted for record and later insertion into the operating andmaintenance manuals.
  • The inspectors shallmonitor the progress of the site taking into consideration the siteconstruction programmes. Any deviation from the target/milestonedates are to be communicated to the Resident Engineer for furtheraction.
  • It is the inspectors duty to be amongstthe inspectors to ensure that the site progress is not being heldby any of the trades involved on theproject.
  • It is imperative that TechnicalQueries raised in writing by the contractors are answered as aquick turnover issue and if not answered by site and require designoffice input these are to bemonitored.
  • Technical Queries are to bediscussed amongst the trade inspectors to ensure that no inputreply is required from other trades inspectors or joint repliesprior to issuing.
  • The inspectors are to makethemselves familiar with the Document control quality system in usein WSA and to keep monitored together with the site DocumentController (If present onsite).

Qualifications:

TechnicalCompetencies

  • 8 yearsminimum experience of working on our everyday site basis knowledgeof the Middle East working conditions would bepreferable.
  • Experience working with aconsultancy office would be preferable but also experience workingwith international contractors is acceptable.
  • BTech in appropriate discipline or equivalent or able to demonstratehave suitableexperience.
