The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Project Officer will be responsible for the strategic coordination, planning, and execution of a premier safety culture to ensure adherence to all relevant state, federal, and local EHS regulations. This role involves the development, coordination, and execution of Leidos' EHS programs in alignment with established procedures and policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the EHS Manager to formulate and execute EHS initiatives for the project.
  • Conduct comprehensive EHS inspections and risk evaluations to guarantee compliance and oversee the implementation of EHS programs.
  • Facilitate training programs for management and staff on safety practices, including fire safety, chemical handling, and emergency response protocols.
  • Perform monthly environmental recordkeeping and inspections to ensure compliance with relevant permits and regulations.
  • Assist in managing EHS programs, focusing on cost control, accident prevention, and safety audits.
  • Oversee workplace industrial hygiene assessments as necessary.
  • Engage in site accident investigations and address EHS concerns.
  • Analyze safety data to identify trends and develop strategies for improvement.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in specific EHS areas.
  • Develop actionable recommendations for corrective measures and document their implementation.
  • Participate in mandatory EHS meetings.
  • Travel Requirement: Minimal.
  • Work with site teams to ensure strict adherence to EHS procedures.
  • Proactively monitor work activities to prevent EHS violations.

Essential Duties:

  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of EHS standards and procedures, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Participate in internal reviews and report findings to management.
  • In collaboration with the EHS Manager and Project Coordinator, regularly assess EHS performance.
  • Supervise staff and conduct training sessions to foster team development.
  • Act as Safety Manager as required.
  • Develop and communicate project schedules for EHS system implementation.
  • Maintain constructive communication with all stakeholders to ensure active EHS procedures.
  • Work within a collaborative team environment to enforce EHS policies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders to facilitate project success.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the proper use of company equipment and personal protective equipment.
  • Implement and manage the EHS system at project sites.
  • Adhere to the company's Equality Policy.
  • Conduct oneself in accordance with corporate values and ethics.
  • Maintain a full site presence and be prepared for site travel as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of EHS laws and regulations and ability to communicate effectively with regulatory bodies.
  • Experience in the aviation sector and airport programs.
  • Radiation Safety Officer training or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Team-oriented and positive attitude.
  • Hands-on experience in implementing EHS programs across various environments.
  • Experience in designing EHS processes and training documentation.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant safety certifications.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Checkable work history for security clearance.
  • Willingness to relocate if necessary.
  • Valid driving license.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Understanding of business metrics and airport installation processes.
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards.
  • Additional EH&S qualifications.
  • Master's degree in a related field.
