Job Summary

Duncan & Ross is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Instrumentation Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, specifying, and implementing instrumentation systems for water treatment projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instrumentation System Design: Develop detailed engineering designs and specifications for instrumentation systems, including Instrument Index Datasheets, Loop Diagrams, P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), and control system architecture.
  • Instrumentation System Analysis: Perform calculations, simulations, and analyses to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and efficiency of instrumentation designs.
  • Instrumentation Component Selection: Select appropriate instrumentation components and equipment based on project requirements and technical specifications.
  • Technical Proposal Development: Prepare technical proposals, feasibility studies, and cost estimates for instrumentation systems.
  • Collaboration and Integration: Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including process engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and designers, to integrate instrumentation designs into overall project deliverables.
  • Technical Review and Inspection: Conduct technical reviews, inspections, and audits to verify adherence to design standards, specifications, and safety regulations.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support during procurement, construction, and commissioning phases, resolving technical issues and ensuring the quality and timely delivery of instrumentation systems.
  • HAZOP Studies and Design Reviews: Participate in HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) studies, design reviews, and risk assessments as required.
  • Industry Trends and Technological Advancements: Stay updated on industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes related to instrumentation engineering.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience: Proven experience of 10 years as an Instrumentation Engineer, preferably within the water treatment industry or related fields.
  • Knowledge and Skills: In-depth knowledge and understanding of international codes and standards (e.g. ISA, API, IEC) relevant to instrumentation design.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficiency in engineering software tools, such as AutoCAD, SPI (SmartPlant Instrumentation), PLC/DCS programming software, and simulation tools.
  • Analytical and Communication Skills: Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve complex technical problems and excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively, meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality work.
  • Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification (preferred).
  • SIL Analysis and Certification: Experience with SIL (Safety Integrity Level) analysis and certification (preferred).
  • Project Management Principles: Familiarity with project management principles and practices (preferred).
  • Design Optimization and Value Engineering: Prior experience in conducting design optimization and value engineering studies (preferred).
