Job Title: Ecological Scientist

Job Description

As an Ecological Scientist, you will play a crucial role in conducting biological assessments and monitoring efforts during various projects that impact sensitive ecosystems. Your responsibilities will encompass a range of biological evaluations, studies, and ongoing monitoring as needed. This position requires extensive fieldwork, the preparation of detailed reports on daily findings, and the analysis of geospatial information. Candidates should demonstrate self-motivation and the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in challenging and remote environments. A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are mandatory. Candidates are expected to have access to a vehicle suitable for fieldwork or the ability to secure a rental truck for project needs. Temporary relocation to specific regions may be necessary. Additional responsibilities may include site flagging, avian surveys, vegetation assessments, habitat evaluations for threatened and endangered species, wetland identification, and invasive species monitoring.

Required Skills

  • 2-4 years of experience in natural resource management, particularly in outdoor settings
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, botany, or a related field
  • Experience with sensitive plant surveys as per BLM guidelines
  • Strong skills in identifying migratory bird species

Preferred Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
  • Exceptional organizational and communication abilities
  • Capability to work both as part of a team and independently in the field

Job Type

This is a contract position with a duration of 12 months.

Work Environment

Fieldwork will be conducted in remote and rugged conditions.
