Position Overview

The Telecommunications Network Specialist will be responsible for overseeing Fixed Network Operations and Maintenance activities. This role includes managing traffic provisioning, cessations, and re-routing, as well as addressing network failures caused by traffic and hardware issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct Fixed Network Operation and Maintenance tasks.
  • Manage traffic activities including provisioning, cessations, and re-routing.
  • Diagnose and resolve network failures related to traffic and hardware.
  • Coordinate planned outages and hazardous network activities.
  • Maintain an inventory of network hardware and associated fixed assets.
  • Oversee the repair and return process for network hardware.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Perform various provision, maintenance, and fault rectification functions for assigned telecom network elements.
  • Execute routine maintenance and fault rectification tasks under supervision, assisting in prescribed testing routines with various test equipment.
  • Respond to faults by adhering to established procedures with guidance from immediate supervisors.
  • Support maintenance activities, including managing stores, spares, tools, and equipment.
  • Address circuit faults reported by the Network Operations Center and escalate major issues for further review.
  • Assist in identifying and resolving Junction Fiber Optic Cable Network faults, including call-out duties.
  • Utilize test equipment to localize and rectify faults effectively.
  • Maintain Service Quality Index (SQI) and perform scheduled periodic maintenance.
  • Continuously update knowledge and skills related to core and fixed network technologies.
  • Assist in the verification of fixed assets.
  • Participate in Acceptance Testing Procedures (ATP) for new nodes and network expansions, ensuring maintenance team compliance.
  • Oversee the acceptance of newly installed Optical Distribution Frames (ODFs) and Junction Cables within the network.
