Purpose of the Role

The role aims to enhance performance tracking by generating standard business performance reports that highlight critical issues and key performance indicators (KPIs) for management exception reporting, along with tailored reports that provide deeper insights into the primary factors influencing costs and revenues, ultimately leading to informed financial decision-making recommendations for the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Offer frontline guidance to facilitate the annual budget preparation for Cost Centre managers, ensuring timely consolidation at the divisional level while demonstrating continuous productivity enhancements. Provide substantiating evidence to Budget and Finance Managers with comprehensive analyses to effectively challenge budget assumptions. Ensure that the budget is centered around KPIs relevant to each business segment and aligns with the long-term strategic plan.
  • Gather monthly data on cash inflows and outflows, integrating this information into a model designed to report business-specific cash flow forecasts on a rolling three-year basis. Conduct analyses to reconcile discrepancies, identifying the reasons for variations. Adjust the cash flow model to accommodate new developments and timelines as cash commitments are authorized and confirmed.
  • Deliver ongoing, hands-on support to business leaders regarding financial literacy by educating them on financial systems and procedures that promote best practices, specifically concerning cost and revenue drivers in their respective domains. Assist in constructing business cases utilizing financial concepts such as Net Present Value (NPV) and Return on Investment (ROI).
  • Generate necessary reports at regular intervals, focusing on diagnostics to propose alternative solutions for driving change. Reports may include Detailed Cost Reports (DCRs), Monthly Financial Reports (MFRs), weekly summaries, revenue/cost analyses, and other specific granular reports.
  • Produce and evaluate periodic re-forecasts at both departmental (cost centre and profit centre) and corporate levels, incorporating the effects of any post-budget developments not initially planned, such as unbudgeted routes, aircraft acquisitions, or delayed hiring, to elucidate the reasons for deviations.
  • Provide financial data to business managers to initiate workflow processes such as Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Procure-to-Pay (P2P), IT Service Requests (ITSRs), and Management Review Evaluations (MREs), recommending actions for approval in accordance with pre-established authority limits. Guide business managers in new initiatives to ensure financially viable solutions, highlighting concerns where new projects may affect existing financial processes, procedures, and policies.
  • Execute financial accounting tasks (applicable in various sectors such as Engineering, Loyalty Programs, Service Delivery, and Corporate Communications). Ensure thorough validation of invoices, accrual generation, and reconciliations with appropriate analyses to substantiate accounting activities to both internal and statutory auditors.
  • Assist the organization in establishing comprehensive financial accounting procedures in response to new initiatives or information, providing data capture for emerging analytical needs through necessary modifications to the chart of accounts. Conduct detailed analyses of new projects to be included in the project register, facilitating effective communication within the Finance department and ensuring optimal financial service delivery to the business.
  • Research and maintain up-to-date benchmarking statistics on key performance indicators relevant to the business, competitors, and industry standards, providing analyses to identify opportunities for revenue enhancement, cost reduction, and resource optimization. Support the business in evaluating high-value contracts to ensure that financial risks are adequately addressed.

Qualifications & Experience

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification (12+3 years)
  • Finance & Insurance, Finance Management: 8+ years of experience
  • Alternatively, a qualified accountant with a minimum of 3 years of experience
  • Proven experience in Finance/Management Accounting within a large organization is essential.
