Job Overview

As a Patient Transporter with RWJBarnabas Health, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of patients throughout our hospital facilities. Under the direction of supervisory personnel, you will utilize our automated transport system to perform duties, adhering to universal infection control practices and providing excellent customer service skills to all patients, visitors, and employees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transport patients in a safe and efficient manner, utilizing the automated transport system.
  • Perform routine cleaning of equipment used to transport patients.
  • Adhere to universal infection control practices.
  • Provide excellent customer service skills to all patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Transport deceased patients to the morgue.

Qualifications:

  • Previous patient transport experience is preferred.
  • Excellent customer service skills are essential.

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Shift working: 6:00am-2:30pm, 7:00am-3:30pm, 8:00am-4:30pm, 9:00am-5:30pm, & 10:00am-6:30pm.
  • Days to work vary.
  • Per Diem.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain a level of attendance and punctuality to meet the demands of the job.
  • Report to work in uniform, ID badge, pager, etc. in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Maintain the minimum department standard of 2.6 transports per hour.
  • Transporting Patients:
    • Advise nurse, nurse designee, or technician upon arrival on the floor.
    • Introduce yourself to patients.
    • Check the patient's ID band for the two identifiers (Name and Date of Birth) before transporting the patient.
    • Assist the nurse or technician in transferring the patient from the bed to the transport equipment or vice versa.
    • Use caution when rounding corners.
    • Ensure brakes are used when transferring from a stretcher and/or wheelchair.
    • Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
    • Maintain safety of patients.
    • Identify appropriate situations to seek assistance from nursing staff and/or security.
    • Recognize and report patient discomfort, distress, or emergency situations to the nurse or technician.
    • Follow infection control and handwashing precautions before, during, and after a transport.
