About the Company

This company engages in the exploration, production, transportation, and sale of crude oil and natural gas. It operates through the following segments: Upstream, Downstream, and Corporate. The Upstream segment includes crude oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids exploration, field development, and production. The Downstream segment focuses on refining, logistics, power generation, and the marketing of crude oil, petroleum, and petrochemical products and related services to international and domestic customers. The Corporate segment offers supporting services, including human resources, finance, and information technology.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Linear Programming (LP) Engineer with expertise in refinery optimization and economics to join our Operation Engineering Solutions Department (OESD). OESD is a part of Global Manufacturing and provides specialized operations and process engineering support to all process technologies within this company, including both wholly-owned and affiliated refining and chemicals facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, update, and run LP models for existing and new refineries using PIMS software to optimize operations and configuration for maximizing net cash margin.
  • Identify margin improvement opportunities through LP models and conduct economic evaluations using NPV, IRR, and other financial metrics.
  • Use Aspen HYSYS software for rigorous simulation and backcasting to compare with actual refinery performance, analyzing gaps, and proposing corrective actions.
  • Support technical and economic evaluation of projects from screening through closure, prioritizing against investment criteria and downstream strategy.
  • Provide technical advisory support to refinery management on LP and optimization matters, including crude selection, products slate, and operational constraints.
  • Coordinate with refinery engineers, planners, schedulers, and marketers to align LP models and objectives.
  • Validate and calibrate LP models using historical data and refinery test runs, ensuring accuracy under current and future operating conditions.
  • Document model changes and updates, communicating them to stakeholders and supporting global MPIMS model development.
  • Maintain quality and consistency of LP models and data in LP gatekeeping processes for refineries and global MPIMS model.
  • Conduct training sessions for refinery LP engineers and users, sharing best practices and updating the LP manual.
Requirements:
  • Willingness to relocate to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering from a recognized program; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • Have a minimum of 17 years of experience in the Oil & Gas Industry, specifically in refining and petrochemical sectors, with expertise in LP modeling, optimization, and economics.
  • Proficient in PIMS and Aspen HYSYS software, along with other relevant tools and standards.
  • Demonstrate excellent technical, analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills, capable of applying knowledge to various LP and optimization challenges and effectively communicating with stakeholders.
  • Thorough understanding of refining processes and economics, as well as global crude and product markets and trends.
  • Experience in developing and running LP models for complex integrated refineries, including scenario analysis and sensitivity studies.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong presentation and reporting skills, capable of communicating complex technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrate strong initiative, creativity, integrity, and leadership qualities, ability to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation, and inspire others towards excellence and optimization.
