About the Role

The Quantity Surveyor plays a crucial role in ensuring the successful delivery of projects by providing expert cost control and quantity surveying services. Reporting to the Resident Engineer, this position is responsible for monitoring contractors' cost control procedures, implementing and maintaining cost control and audit procedures, and assessing and evaluating financial claims.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cost Control and Monitoring: Monitor contractors' cost control procedures throughout the project duration, including the construction phase, final account, and defects maintenance phase.
  • Cost Control Procedures: Implement and maintain all required cost control and audit procedures to measure project status.
  • Financial Claims: Assess, evaluate, and make recommendations related to financial claims and provide necessary input for settling claims.
  • Variations and Claims Registers: Establish and maintain variations and claims registers.
  • Monthly Cost Reports: Evaluate all variations, additional works, field changes, additions, and omissions, and incorporate them into monthly cost reports.
  • Change Orders and Negotiations: Prepare and price change orders and negotiate agreements with the client and contractor as necessary.
  • Contract Negotiations: Negotiate contracts with contractors.
  • Viability Studies and Cost Estimates: Conduct viability studies and cost estimates.
  • Cost Review Meetings: Chair and record cost review meetings with contractors.

Requirements

  • Professional Qualifications: Professional member of a recognized institution (in quantity surveying division) with a minimum of 2 years of post-qualified experience, or a quantity surveying degree from a recognized university with a minimum of 5 years of post-qualified experience, or a quantity surveying diploma from a recognized institution with a minimum of 10 years of post-qualified experience, or any other quantity surveying or civil engineering degree with a minimum of 8 years of post-qualified experience in quantity surveying.
  • Experience: 8+ years of experience in dealing with comparable transportation projects, with experience in claims/arbitration procedures and methods required.
